It has been raining a lot in Maine lately. Yesterday was the first good day but there was possible showers in the afternoon so Amanda and I decided to go for a hike. We knew we had to do a smaller Mountain unless we wanted to get soaked. We chose one that was close by that we have done before because we really like the view from the top.

Heading up the trail.

As soon as we got on the trail we found this Trillium.

Saw this cool rock with a tree growing around it.

Various ferns and moss.

Rock tripe.

Some wild yellow Violets.

Chaga!

We got to Little Concord pond at the base of the mountain and discovered that it still has ice on the pond and snow on the shore. In past years we have seen snow in this same spot well into June.

Becker loved the snow.

Found some ferns with the spores on the undersides of the leaves.

A beautiful section of trail.

Gaining elevation.

Death by Woodpecker?

My hiking companion.

More green showing through the leaves.

We chose to do the Bald Mtn loop. We will be back for Speckled Mountain.

Live tree that wants to be a walking stick?

Cool mushroom.

Speckled Mountain.

Concord pond.

Becker hanging out on top.

Shagg pond.

Spruce Mountain wind towers.

Amanda and I on the ledge.

Tea berries!

Rain coming in. We decided to head down.

We saw a Beech tree with a broken branch completely wet with sap.

Cool rock along the trail.

We got caught in the rain. Little concord pond again.

Ice on the trail.

Remember the Chaga? Amanda went Abo on it with a rock.

Not a bad score.

Even though it was raining it was good to be outside.

We made time to check for amphibian eggs on the way back.

Another hike in the books!

Thanks for viewing!

Aww man...all you guys had fun today while i was stuck inside a tattoo studio working...!!!! Thanx for sharing

Nice. I gotta post up a couple on my own thread - we went up Mt. Major today, rain, sun, fog, rain, sun....like you said, though: good to be outside, no matter the weather.

Nice photos. For the "cool mushroom," my bet is on Reishi (ganoderma tsugae).

Cool report, thanks for sharing. Nice score on the chaga too, I've been keeping my eyes open for some this spring but so far no luck...

nice pics! i'm always on the lookout for chaga here but i think we're not far north enough for it to grow here.

Looks like a freakin blast man. I wish I lived in such a beautiful area.

wow.. some great shots. love these types of threads. looks like you had a lot of fun. thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the pictures, I went hiking in upstate NY a little less than a month ago and we had a lot of snow but it seems we have a lot of the same looking trees and brush here!
That image with the fern and the spores growing underneath is pretty freaking cool!
Also your dog is adorable.

Thanks for taking me along....... Looks to have been a lovely hike........ Love the pics.....
