I have had a sword for 40-45 years. It was in the basement of a house my mother bought. Thought I would try to ID it. At the hilt, on one side looks like "P. KNECHT" ON THE OTHER SIDE LOOKS LIKE "SOLINGEN" The only other engraving is a crown with what looks like a German Iron Cross on top. Below that is an old English letter that could be a "P" or a fancy "I". Sword blade is about 3 ft. and it has a metal scabbard with two rings on it. No engraving.
Thanks all!

Without photos it's impossible to make a positive identification. :o

Not true! For example I'll say I'm positive it's a smatchet in a really fancy scabbard with some engraving on it.

Oh... you meant a correct positive identification... well okay you've got a point there... :D

FortyTwoBlades is exactly correct, without pictures it's highly unlikely that anyone is going to be able to make a positive ID.
