I am sorry to ask as I have tried to search this site for info prior to posting with no luck.
I am trying to identify a specific survival model of Buck knife.
The one I have seen is matte aluminum finish(colour)
It is a fixed blade knife of about 10" x 1.5" with saw sarrations on the back of the blade.
The handle had two threaded holes either side that accomodated 2" knurled metal pegs that when inserted(screwed in) acted as a grappleing hook.
The end of the Knife had a swivel fitting that would allow a rope or carabiner to be attached.
The Sheath was primarily plastic with black nylon strapping and the knife Clicked into it for security.
does anyone have any information on this model? Name? Date of manufature?

Thank you very much for your help

I still think that the Buck model 184 BuckMaster is a great looking knife. Maybe it's just my "Buckaholism" (Thanks to mfinden, AKA 'Buckaholic,' for coining the term...), but, I wish that I'd bought one, way back when they were in production. I liked the prices better, back then. ;)

I keep reading, in the forums, folks who say that, generally, hollow-handled survival knives are POS (pieces of sh*t), but, I can't help but think that Buck made an excellent product, for it's given purpose: Probably for a 6'6" Army Ranger or Navy SEAL to carry, one who weighs 275 pounds, all brains and muscle, and who has trained in the use of a two-pronged grappling hook, in a survival type of situation.

Is the general consensus that Buck made a great hollow-handled "Rambo type" survival knife, when so many others of the kind appear to have gotten a bad reputation?

Me too geothorn...
I recall seeing it at the store when I bought my BuckTool. My first thought was "oh no, Buck is on the Rambo knife bandwagon" and I shrugged it off.
