We have a Randall knife that we haven't been able to match to any we've seen on assorted websites. It has no model number that I can find. It is engraved with the name "David B. Mock". We found that name in some of the search engines, one of which is a historical professor from a Florida University. The knife is in a Heiser sheath, with stone pouch and stone. It is a 7" Fighter type knife. I will email a photo to anyone interested in helping me figure out what we have.

OP, send me the photos to swickersham at sbcglobal dot net and I'll post 'em here and try to help you out...

You will probably get far better results with your questions if you post in the Randall Forum. Follow the link

The guys in that forum are dedicated Randall experts and just general Randall nuts. Good Luck

Paul

I don't mean to be rude. I clicked on your link and the best I can tell it just brings me back here. I was gifted a Randall and curious about a ballpark date. Any other suggestions? Anybody ? I can't seem to find a Randall Forum. Thanks

Eureka, you have found it. If you post pictures here, someone will be able to give you most of the information you seek.

I appreciate your help. I called Randell but they blew me off. I suspect the handle is Ivory. And unfortunately stored in the sheath.

It's been awhile, so I'll attempt to post these pictures. Tip to hilt is 11 1/8", Blade is 5/16th thick.

I won't be able to answer your question but I know that others here can. I would like to say that that is the most beautiful Smithsonian Bowie that my eyes have seen. That is one incredible gift.

OK, now I am caught up. I had a hell of a time following this thread from a mobile device. I was expecting a 7" fighter, but that was the OP. Then the subject of an amazing RMK Smithsonian came up.

The thing that stands out on that Smithsonian is the slim brass strip. I have strong feelings for that one it has a lot of the classic stuff, brown buttons, 40-50's spacers?, slim brass strip, "Ivory" handle. Do you have the sharpening stone? There is alot of character in that blade.

Jeffrey,

Your Randall 12-11 Smithsonian Bowie was probably made between 1953 and 1955, and likely closer to the earlier date given. It's also the model and age that I've been looking for, for around ten years - if it ever needs a new home, please keep me in mind. :)

Hope that helps,

Shel

That guy is a flipper, all he ever talks about is buying and selling them.

:D I jest I jest........

Jester,

Sure, I've owned most of RMK's models and configurations over the years, but a few are on my short list, and that particular Bowie is near the top...

Gentlemen
I place great value on your collective expertise . I was particularly interested in a Ballpark Manufactured date. Due to the knife being a gift I would be pressed to part with it. If it was actually of any value, I would consider dispatching ( in a dignified & painless manner ) the " Gift giver " to avoid the ensuing embarrassment. I am currently having it placed in a display box. It will hang on the wall for a few months then I'll give you guys a heads up. I'm not a Randell collector. Again, I thank you for your time and insight.
Jeff

Wow. That one is on most peoples list. :D hahahaaha

There is a stone Ron.I know zip about Randell other then what I currently see on the market. The stones appear to be a reddish color. This one looks like gray marble, so I don't know if it came with the knife or not. It fits perfectly in the sheath but I have no idea, and the the original owner has passed. When the safe was opened it was in the sheath hence there is a tad of pitting although it did have a thin film of lubricant and much to my surprise is quite sharp. I've been into knives ever since I was a kid and there is always a telltale sign if a knife has been resharpened. So it looks like the original edge. Frankly Ron I have very little interest in it. It certainly is not something a sane person would care to lug around. When I dump it I'll take dozens of pic from every angle imaginable for those that are interested. For the moment it will be placed in a custom display box and hung on the wall. Cheers
