The Bushlore has a "scandivex" edge. I'm using waterstones, starting with a 600 grit. After a good 30 minutes can barely cut paper now. Original edge was butter knife dull. Any advice on technique, or just keep working as is?

600 grit waterstone isn't coarse enough for this kind of job. if you have coarser or i you can buy one that's what i'd do. if not keep going. sharpie is your best friend.

I had done my bushlore using 2"X6" diamond plates 200grit and 800 at the last part. Turns out even better after stroping, now it shaves and cuts paper like my mora knife.
BTW it took me a saturday afternoon , I will say about a 3 hours work for me.

start off with a coarser grit like 280 and work your way up and use a sharpie to mark your edge as suggested so you can see where you are at on the edge.

As a suggestion for a single re-profile like this, just grab some silicon carbide (black) wet-or-dry sandpaper. Wrap that around a piece of glass or your existing waterstone, and you can get down to 240 or so to start, then switch to your waterstone to clean up the scratches. :)

Thank-you for the advice all. Could someone clarify about using the Sharpie? With the wide bevel of a scandi where would the sharpie help? By the way, I've only sharpened edges in the past - the hardness and durability of this 1074 steel surprises me, now that I'm trying to change the bevel. I'd call it a new respect. Thanks again.

you mark the edge so you can see exactly where you are at. if you still see the marker, you need to keep going till you get a burr and see no more marker.
