I have the sog trident folder the earlier version with the combo edge. I am looking for suggestions on a decent sharpener something not to expensive. Oh and any tips on sharpening that curvy blade.

I would strongly suggest you get the SOG Countertop Knife Sharpener. Best thing I've ever used and gets my knife sharp and is a handy tool.

Here it is: http://sogknives.com/store/SH-02.html

Don't worry about all the bad things they say about SOG. I've been using SOG products for the past 3 years and have not found anything better to use.

That would probably put an edge you'd be satisfied with on the knife, but it bears mentioning that carbide sharpeners can kinda chip your knife up over time. It's worth learning how to use a stone or ceramic sharpener eventually; you'll probably like it better once you know how. With a curvy blade I have the most success using something like a sharpmaker or a lansky turn box. The rods only contact the blade at a single point, which helps you work along the curves better. I usually scratch the knife up when I try to sharpen anything with a belly if I use a bench stone.

Ouch. Yes, stones and ceramics are always worth the time, trouble and money.
I really don't like any sharpening system that won't allow me the possibility of refining my edge in gradations, i.e., 200 grit through to 10 000 grit depending on the knife. However, if you're not comfortable free handing and you're worried about the curvature of the blade and perhaps the grind angles too, look into the Spyderco Sharpmaker. It works very well on a variety of curved blades and has a few grit options. In time you might upgrade but its a quality start. I have one I rarely use anymore (opting for chosera stones and the edge-pro for a few knives) but its still a great system to take in my pack for an easy quick fix.

Also, I have the Trident too. I assure you the Triangle Sharpmaker does indeed work on this knife.
