TSA and American troops...

I've been away for a while (mostly hang-out at AR15.com), but I stumbled on an idea/question yesterday and figured that this is a good place to bring it up.

I have been working on some network issues at my local international airport and have come across three full boxes of sharp objects that were STOLEN from their original owners. When the TSA confiscates your nail files, scissors, multi-pliers, and knives, they throw them in some boxes in the back room. At least that's what they do here. A while back I saw that the State of Pennsylvania was auctioning-off their ill-gotten booty in lots of 20-30 knives (Kershaw, Buck, etc). Anyways... I noticed a lot of Leatherman multi-tools in these boxes (Supertool, Wave, Squirt, Micro, etc) not to mention some Gerber and SOG stuff as well.

Wouldn't it be nice if our government would at least take this stuff that they confiscated from Joe Six-Pack and give it to the troops serving overseas that do not have it? From what I have read, they request multi-tools more than any other item of cutlery. Got forbid they actually do something constructive that they took....

I apologize if this thread ends up being a dupe...

There is actually a pilot program in a few airports now that lets you mail your "confiscated" goodies to yourself instead of them being seized by TSA. If that's not an option though, I agree I'd rather see it in the hands of U.S. Troops that a bunch of TSA jerk-offs.

They are'nt "stolen." In this day and age trying to pass contraband thru a security checkpoint is careless at best and stupid or criminal at worst.

The regulations are stupid, but they are there. You violate'em at your own risk.

Keep in mind too that each of those knives represents an arrest that could have been made but more than likely was'nt.

Gimme a break. Most of the stuff was scissors and nail files. In fact, everything else was just swimming in scissors. At least 80% of it was scissors. Grandma may have been not on-the-ball, but she was hardly "criminal" or an arrest waiting to be made. Do you really think all of this post-9/11 BS is magically keeping us safe? And do you think that if someone pulled a box-cutter in an airliner now (with locked and reinforced cockpit door) that the whole cabin would jump the guy(s) and beat the living hell out of him? Yes, people who bring sharp objects to the airport terminal are not being too smart. And yes, the TSA is practically stealing grandma's knitting needles and scissors...
