I'm sure some of you have wondered what happens to all the items the TSA confiscates at security check points. Apparently some of it is auctioned off, including the knives.

(( link to live auctions ))

And you can bid on knives by the pound. One auction listing reads, "Approx. 12 lbs Assorted Black Knives - #11274." Another is "Victorinox/Wenger Swiss Knives Lot (approximately 400 knives)."

I'm sure some of you are bidding on these already!

Wow... you weren't kidding. They have a ton bulk knives for sale. Quality may be questionable, but a good find nonetheless.

Broke my heart when they got my left handed Spyderco Clipit Executive. Last seen being tossed into a box of fierce fingernail clippers. Be nice to think it eventually got a good home where it was appreciated rather than being melted down for scrap.

Anyone gets one in an auction, and its custom engraved, let me know, I'd really like the chance to get it back.

There are a couple worth looking at but mostly junk and it looks like people have cranked the bids past the point of risk. Fees and shipping drag down the deal feel of it for me.

That's sort of what I see as well. People are gamblers though, and ya never know when it may pay off.

From the comments from the now removed link

"Yup, there's my knife, fourth from the top on the left. I left it in my camera bag after a camping trip by accident. "

I don't know if he was joking or not but that would suck.

FWIW there are TSA knives on the very large auction site every day. There is also an unclaimed baggage place near Chattanooga where you can find buckets of knives.

I know they want to get rid of bulk knives, but honestly who needs 10-20 lbs of junk knives for hundreds of dollars. Looks like a resellers paradise, but useless to someone like me. I'd end up keeping a handfull and giving/dumping the rest... Not exactly worth $500. I do like the small lots of 10-15 multi tools/knives but still dont see my moneys worth in them. Just my point of view.

Those who can sell at gun/knife shows or small shops sould jump on these. Seeing as its a great view into what the majority of the general public is carrying lol.

PS: I think I spotted a Benchmade Griptilian or mini grip pocket clip in the top left of the black knives lot picture. Hope I didnt spoil anyones secret score lol.

And some of the auction sites force you to either pick up the lots or arrange your own shipping. Amazon, they ain't...
