Just had my tiny SAK Classic confiscated by TSA in Redmond, OR.
No knives are allowed in carry-on bags.

I'm freakin' livid.

Cheers.

This is nothing new, it's common knowledge here. Yes, even a Classic is considered a weapon by TSA. Also, don't even think of taking one to a sporting event, amusement park, government building, etc.

I thought some changes were made and something that tiny, albeit obviously deadly, was now allowed?

No, that idea was shot down after flight attendants and the general public protested.

Yeah, my fault for not staying current with the issue. I thought the rule had changed.
Oh well, off to buy another one tomorrow.

Thanx to all the malcontents for piling on, you guys are hilarious!

Cheers!

There is a Victorinx Jetsetter that is supposed to pass airport security with no hassles - like a Classic without the blade. I do not have one yet, but it looks interesting.

On a related note, the so called "tactical pens" (I have a hard time saying that phrase without laughing) are also a no go on airplanes. TSA has a security blog somewhere on their site where they often show stuff they confiscate from people, the last one showed all the normal stuff (knives, guns, ammo, etc) and mentioned a number of tactical pens also being confiscated.

Recently there was even a guy who had a small blowtorch with him...

If boggles the mind how many people keep getting their knives confiscated by the TSA. How can anyone not know that this is going to happen? It defies basic common sense to think otherwise.

Stop it, people! Stop it!

I was told my Spartan Knives (blade show June 14) that some European countries are allowing very small knives on planes again. They have a new model folder that is supposed to meet those guide lines. Hopefully, things will change in this country too sometime.

Yeah, it pays to know the knife laws where you are for airport security. The only time I've been had was on my trip in Ecuador. I bought a "TSA-friendly" style PS multi-tool and everything was kosher going to Ecuador. I got to have it to use while I was there which was great. But the thought never even crossed my mind that Ecuadorian airport security is not TSA. I lost a good one, but luckily it was pretty cheap to replace, and now I know.

I carried my 940 into a Broncos game a few months ago, just gotta be smarter than the metal detector :) (clip it next to your belt buckle) and proceed.

I looked up the TSA blog, they post some of the items that have been confiscated... some people seem to live on another planet, so many confiscated guns and knives...
I think it is actually a cool read, look at the right side bar for the blog entries by month.

People buy a lot of junk knives from the pics I have seen. Also a lot of ninjas seem to jump on flights these days :) , so many throwing stars/knives and swords..just amazing.
I do not see why a tactical pen would be confiscated, by that notion all pens should be confiscated.

I have been on an flight last year with a S&W tactical pen, gold colored at that and no issues.
Two years ago I traveled to Europe and had one of my folders with me. The wife packed in in the carry on with our camera...passed right through the scanners, not sure if the TSA agents were not paying attention, or the camera hid it. Luckily I saw it as I was gathering my stuff and told them about it, they allowed me to put it in my checked baggage (regional airport).

I travel regularly for work, and on two occasions (absentmindedness) I've had to step aside and mail my pocketknife back to myself from just outside security. Every time I go through the TSA line I ask if there have been any updates to the pocketknife policy just to make sure I haven't missed anything.

I personally have had everything from a nail file, tweezers, toenail clippers, and collapsing scissors taken from my bag. It's such a vague policy in that anything that could be deemed "a weapon" can reasonably be prohibited. Furthermore, if you make a stink about it with the TSA agent (which I have) they love to let you know just how much power they have inside their little 20' x 20' box on this private planet of theirs.

And for those who "remember hearing about something changing", you're thinking of when the Fed had proposed to let pocketknives under ~2.4" blade length become approved items again, and this was back in March 2013. Then, over the next couple of months in 2013, flight attendants started openly protesting in front of congress and airports. After the situation was exacerbated by the Boston Marathon bombing in April '13, security measures around the nation ramped back up and nobody was willing to talk about relaxing restrictions on anything.

They consider it to be an impact/blunt force weapon.
