I was just the TSA looking over what stuff I can bring with on a trip I'm going to take soon. I checked out matches first, and as it turned out, you can't bring strike anywhere matches carry-on or checked baggage.

I then tried misch metal ferro rods, and I couldn't find them, but I think I'll just put one in my checked baggage stuff

On the other hand, Bic lighters are okay to bring.

Have you guys heard of any stipulations, or have had any experience packing kit from your small to mid bob?

With strike anywhere they are afraid of just that. Where ever they are placed, they could be lit accidentally.

The mischmetal rods are (or were....) a "no-no" with carry-on (at least for int'l destinations). I managed one anyway as I use it for with some of my medium format photography gear (though there were a lot of questions about it). However, I've sent several mischmetal rods on checked bags over the years and I don't think there was any problem at all...
