Tschager and other Italian makers...

As we know, there's an entire world of customs outside of the US. Generally, I find that those are not very well known in the US, but recently several Russian, South African, Spanish, and German makers have started to be featured.

I always keep an eye on an German (not Italian as I first thought) online shop called Ars Cultry. Never bought anything from them and quite possibly never will. However, they have a pretty large offering of a maker I've never seen discussed here named Reinard Tschager.

I've assumed for a long time that he was German, but he's in fact Italian. He specializes in very fancy integrals. His stuff is as fancy as the work of Dellana and van Barnett, but to my taste even more elegant.

Here are a few examples from the Ars Cultri store (http://arscultri.com/en/index.php):

Here are a couple examples taken from Ars Cultri:

I love the gold pins in the black MOP handle. This seems to be a recurring feature of his work. A bio and a link to an interview can be found here:

A few more examples of past work can be found on an other Italian site:

What do you guys think?

Any other Italian makers you like?

Some breathtaking pieces there for sure. Thanks for the look Joss.

I finished this up about a month ago for Don Guild. Not offered yet.

I agree 100%. Very meticulous work and styling.

Joss:
I think that Manfred's site is a German web site.

It is German indeed. I believe Manfred lives in Hamburg. I had the pleasure of meeting him at ECCKS last year via Dietmar Kressler. Nice guy.

Tschager is Italian. His name sounds German because he is from the Tirol region of north-eastern Italy. This area has a lot of German speaking people - the area borders Austria. I went there with my family twice in my childhood for hiking vacations - gorgeous land!

Hello everyone,
Here are three fixed-blade pocket "Jewel Knives", made by Reinhard Tschager.
All three knives were engraved by Valerio Peli (Italy).

Seen from the left:

Integral guard with gold inlays, engraved blade and Black-lip pearl
inlays in the hanle. Overall length 4 15/16" (125 mm).
"Semi-Integral Drop", 2003
Engraved guard and ancient tortoise shell handle. Overall length 4 3/4" (121 mm).
"Mini Integral", 2001
The first "Jewel knife" made by Tschager with an engraved gold insert in
the premium Mother-of-Pearl handle. Overall length 4 3/8" (106 mm).
From the collection of Dr. Pierluigi Pertoni, Italy.

This full page illustration is the title page of my book "The Great Collections",
the fourth in my series of books on modern custom knives...

All the best,
David Darom (ddd)

I have liked Tschager's knives for a long time but have rarely seen one for sale in the US. I am not crazy about some of the more adorned pieces, but his simple pieces are really stunning. Another Italian maker I like is Pachi.

Oh, I get it - it's in relation to my mention that Ars Cultri was Italian. I'll correct that.
