Hello, I also just got the T2 bordie stones. I didn't realize it was recommended to use oil. Did you end up using water or oil? If water, how did it turn out? I don't really want to mess with using oil so I was going to try water, but the website https://www.borideabrasives.com/PublicStore/product/T2,30,314.aspx seems to say, "lubricant" which I believe is oil.

I suspect that it just extends the life of the stone if you use oil versus water but not sure.

I just saw this on Gritomatic 5 seconds after I posted.... I think i'll go with soapy water and call it a day.

Boride stones should be used with one of these lubricants:
  • Water
  • Soapy water
  • Boride Bori-Lube
  • Water solution of dipropylene glycol
  • WD-40 (for experienced users only)
  • Refined olive oil (for experienced users only)
  • Oleic aсid (for experienced users only)
In case of using the water as lubricant, soak the stone in water for 1-2 minutes. In case of using the oil, put a small amount (1-2 drops) of honing oil on the stone’s surface and spread it evenly over the stone with a finger. If the stone absorbs the honing oil, use larger amount of oil.
