This quesion is regarding a K03 sharpener and lets say you already sharpened a knife with it. When touching up the same knife after use, does it matter where it is placed in the clamps or where the clamps on the unit are placed? Or, can that all move just as long as the angle remain the same? I would like to be able to quickly touch it up without having to record where the clamps were or wher the knife was held at.

left or right would not matter, how deep is spine in clamps would matter .Spine of blade need to be in same position if you want same sharpening angle when you do * quickly touch*

Having a little trouble understanding how deep the spline sets would be a factor. Wouldn't you just put the knife in the clamps then re-adjust the angle reading until it was the same angle previously used?

I think in the example, the angles are different because all 3 red lines use the same starting reference point. However, if the blade is moved to the rear the angle would change as depicted, but then you lower the red line until cube reads 20 degrees again.

Yes, as long as you measure the angle and adjust accordingly it doesn't matter how deep it is in the clamp. What will have some effect is rotation in the clamp. But if you follow the same methodology every time, you should be able to get it close enough for touch-up work. I'd recommend double-checking with the sharpie trick to make sure you're hitting the whole bevel from heel to tip.

It's going to matter where it is right to left in the clap. The flat portion will be fine, but it can throw off the belly and tip a little.

Ok, thanks. How is it best to plan for this? A dimensional sketch?

I use a KME, but I normally take a pic with my phone. And right down the angle I sharpened it at. That gets me really really close.

You're right, I should have read the whole post before answering ...............
