I acquired the full size Tsunami over the weekend and oh boy, what a knife :D

Just have one question regarding the blade steel. This particular knife could be about 2 years old. It has a little catalogue inside the box that lists blade steel on most of the fixed blade SOGs as 440A. If you look on the www.sogknives.com website, most of the fixed blades are now listed as having AUS6 steel. So I'm wondering, which is it? Did they maybe switch to AUS6 at some point in time.

Ron, this is one cool knife that will definitely stay in my collection. Will just look at getting a nicer kydex sheath for daily carry.

Hi Andre,

Since 440A (a US made steel) and AUS6 (a Japanese made steel) are quite similar, we have (in the past) interchanged the labels. These knives have always been made of AUS6 and we have recently made the decision to exclusively use the AUS steel designations on appropriate blades.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Ron :)

I have a number of CRKTs, Gerbers and Kershaws with 440A and AUS6 blade steels and all of them are quite serviceable. I have found the the AUS6 steel to be exceptionally sharp as well, so I have no problem with the steel selection.

Thanks for the response. :)
