That is certainly a very nice looking knife. It's certainly a good cause too. And it's generous of you to offer it to help this cause. I certainly do encourage people to contribute to such a worthy cause and this would be a good way to do that.

But I suggest people hold off on this for a day or so while the moderatorial staff here investigates the whole situation.

In a raffle, your chance of winning doesn't depend on how early you buy your ticket, so holding off for a day or so won't hurt anything.

I don't know you, don't have any idea if this is legitimate or not; you just posted it without talking to us about it first. I can't see any alternative to treating it as spam until proven otherwise.

Does anybody know this fellow?

There is post over on another forum wher it looks like he has support for his efforts from a couple BFC members like B. Buxton and Tracy Mickley.

I think he just jumped the gun and didn't get proper clearance for running a raffle on BFC. I hope that's all it is. Maybe he could get himself a Knifemaker membership here and still be welcome.

Dale.

I only know him from his posts on Knife Network forum, but as far as I can tell he is a good guy doing a very nice thing.

He got in touch with us in email, which we appreciate. Another concern, though, is legal issues. If we were to have a raffle in all fifty states it would have to be in compliance with the laws of all fifty states or we could get in big trouble. I've been informed you need a license to hold a raffle in Oregon. What about the other 49 states? I don't know.

Bladeforums has over 28,000 members and probably 10-20 times that many lurkers. A raffle for a good cause like tsunami relief could bring in a really large amount of money, followed closely by prosecutors.

My advice is to give up the idea of a raffle and just sell the knife -- sell it on ebay, or get a Knifemaker Membership and sell it on Bladeforums, and give the money to tsunami relief.

It's already on other forums. Better advice would be to just skip Bladeforums.
