Tsunami?

Okay, I've done a search and I can't find anything about the Tsunami. I'm thinking about ordering one and although I hate the MOLLE sheath, I've got others I can use.

Everything else about the Tsunami I like, from what I can see on the website. This is going to be a strictly self defense knife, no car hoods and no batonning.

Can anybody tell me anything about it?

Thanx

I've had mine for 7 years (1st gen I guess). It's cut up plenty of veggies and meat in the kitchen, whittled a few sticks, opened some packages and cut some rope. Have taken it rock climbing a time or two and it worked wonders for spreading peanut butter on whole wheat for PB&J sandwiches. Am planning to use it around my mom's house when I do yard work for her this spring and summer. Wish I had bought a Mini Tsunami when I had the chance years ago. Also wouldn't mind playing with the new version, IMO it looks really nice.

not much, except that i really do think that it could do without that over protective single-sided finger guard for specialized security deployments.

Wow, so that's it huh? Not even a few "try it you'll like it" posts.

I've received the same underwhelming response all over the 'net. Only two owners have responded and one said don't bother with SOG, though he wasn't specific as to why. Not trying to be mean or combative here, it just surprises me as I am accustomed to the number of responses I've seen when people ask about Cold Steel, Spyderco or even Kershaw.

So either there ain't that much love for SOG, or SOG Tsunami owners are a quiet bunch or everyone thinks I'm a nut case. Okay, so be it. Guess I'll save my money and make other arrangements.

I have several SOG knives. Never an issue with any. I have a North West Ranger(Older Seki Version) inbound that I bought from a fellow member here. I think the NW Ranger and the Tsunami are similar in size and cost. If I like the Ranger I might spring for the Tsunami.

I think your intended use as a SDK is well suited to this blade. Many folks try to use blades for purposes they were not intended to be used for and come away unhappy.

Sorry I don't have anything more specific for you. But I would not be afraid of SOG at all.

honestly speaking, the Tsunami is kinda dated for a production tanto edc.
perhaps the the new Swedge models would be more in line with current strategic counter offensive intentions.

Good enough, thank you Sir.

Swedge? Whatzza Swedge? Oh, that's a Swedge! Reminds me of the old Seax. Interesting piece, not something that would compliment the training I've had though.

I have the old generation of Tsunami. I don't like the kydex sheath so have made my own.

I was not a fan of the Tanto and bought this on a special from a shop where they were slow moving. The handle is excellent and you can hold it way down on the lower bulge for that snap and slash. The balance is good.

As a field knife it is fair to good for food preparation and fuzz sticks. Good, but not excellent edge retention. Being able to use it for everyday things is important as it means a reduction in knives that I carry.

I have been eyeing the Vulcan for SDK (really just another new toy as wife calls them). Have you considered it?

I agree, a field knife needs to handle kitchen stuff along with the other cutting chores. As I said earlier, mine has seen use in the kitchen so I know it works. But firstly I think it's more of a general purpuse field knife or Self Defence knife.

There was something wrong with my Kydex sheath years ago, (can't remember what) so I headed it up and fixed it. Made a leather sheath for it that works but looks horible. Probably threw it out when I moved back to college. Will probably make a new leather sheath for it when I start carrying it this spring.

That Vulcan Fixed blade looks so cool! Would love to have one. SD/Combat cutting are the main uses I see for it. Lots of times when I'm out backpacking or hiking I'll carry a knife on my pack in a place thats not likely to draw attention to the knife. In the past it has been a Mini Pentagon or Seal Revolver. Am thinking the Tsunami or Vulcan Fixed Blade would be ideal, depending on the enviroment I was in.

i had the mini tsunami a while back and it was a great sd knife.kinda wish i hadnt traded it.
