Since I bought my spyderco salt1, over a month and a half ago. It has become not only my most used folder, but probably my favorite. Most of my folders are more expensive, and well loved, but there was just something about this knife and the fact that it required zero maintenece, with the exception of cleaning off crap and maintaining the edge. I have taken it swimming and done a lot of food prep without any spec of rust. But we know this already.

My buddies and I went tubing last saturday, and once again proved to come in great handy. Its about a five hour trip and it stayed in my swimsuit pocket well until pulled out. It was not until we were about 50 feet from the end when I pulled it out to cut the string attaching my tube to my buddy's. instead of putting it back in my pocket, I decided to hold it in my hand, and not even ten feet from the end, I somehow dropped it. I immediately popped out of my tube and swam to the bottom, hoping to find it. No dice. Came up for air and went right back down, same deal. I soon gave up hope and just felt aweful.

The only good thing about it is that this knife does not cost an arm and a leg. I immediately knew that I would be purchasing another one on monday as this I can not immagine not having this knife. Needless to say, I told my friends that I would be buying another, and one of my friends, who really liked the knife told me to order one for him too. So I ordered two more and cant wait to have one again.

Just thought you guys might appreciate this as there are not a too many knives that I would replace immediately if lost. This one is!!! If anybody out there is going back and forth in their head, wondering if they should buy one of these, let me save you some time and tell you now to just buy it. You will not regret it.

I am really looking foward to more rustproof knives from spyderco. Hopefully they will continue to expand their H1 series of knives.

I have a black PE Salt 1, and just yesterday I ordered a yellow SE one. I like the PE H1, but I REALLY like H1 serrated blades.

If you don't like to clip it, the Salt 1 (and even the Pacific and Tasman Salts) make great in-the-pocket carry knives as well. And if/when they get gritty from sand, as will happen at the beach, you simply rinse them out under a tap and they're good to go. There are no other knives I could do that with as carefree as I can with the Salts.

was yours a yellow or black handle? I plan on getting a yellow handle in case the same thing happens to me. Would really make it easier to find.

Mine was yellow, but the water was far from clear. Definately get the yellow. Its great.

we have a couple fountains on campus where I go to college and often I have thought while walking by.. "I wish I had a yellow Spyderco Pac salt that i could carelessly throw in the water and fish it out and put it back in my pocket without a care in the world" :) maybe I'm crazy.
