If the weight is correct, whatever the length, it would be a good Khuk to own.

Interesting, so the same kukri from DOTD 2/4, same length and spine thickness, was 30 oz from Vim Kami as opposed to 22oz now from Dil Kami. That makes it an entirely different knife depending on purpose.

That is just perfect. I prefer less ounces per inch.

I have an 18 incher on the way. Forgot to ask Yangdu the Kami and the weight.

These appear to have just abouth as much drop to the blade and handle as an M-43, or close. I want to see how they compare.

They do have the only improvement I would make to the M-43 which is the ring around the handle which greatly improves the grip characteristics.

We also heard of a 48 oz., 20" model before that. I think we should be open to the possibility of 1 or more typos.

I know this DOTD is long gone but I am interested in knowing a bit about it and if it is still being made by HI. This knife looks just about perfect for my first Khukuri from HI.

Actually it won't be my first as I was lucky enough to pick up a horn handled Kbit yesterday. Will definitely take some pics when it arrives. Woot!! :D

Again, there's no such thing as out of production with HI - just not in current stock ;)

That said, ASTKs are quite popular but generally found in the 18" size. That's probably what size the ASTKs will be if there are any in the next shipment. Who knows though, you might luck out and a 15"er might be in there. Just email your inquiry to Aunty Yangdu - worst case scenario, she can have one specially made up for you

Thanks Killa I'll do that. I had emailed her about one here recently and she said she didn't think she had anyone to do the inlay work so I guess I wasn't sure if it was not made for a particular reason.

Being a bit green about these in general how would you say this particular one compares to the M-43? I like them both but I want to make sure I don't end up with something with a mammoth handle as my hands are a bit on the small side. Thanks for your response! Much appreciated.

Liveitloud, I have both a 15" ASTK and an 18" M43. My hands are also a bit on the small side. They both have fairly large handles, though the ASTK fits my hand a little better, if you don't mind the ring. Both are fine khuks in any case.

I'll try and get some pics up tomorrow.

Mine is 18", 1/2 inch thick, 36-38Oz and made by Murali.

Had a paracord tied up as lanyard (Thanks Cotherion!) and it's not flying anywhere whenever i do a woodchuck.

I have no experience with the ASTK, so I dunno what size is best, but I'll try my hand with this 15"er

if that's not right I'mma try to get a 18"er

Great pics thanks. Wow, that thing is really thick at the spine. I am going to ask her about getting one around 15 inches as I think the weight would probably be more suitable but that sire is a sharp looking blade.

About the only thing that I wanted that it did not have was the smooth handle without the ring but that is by no means a deal breaker.

Try asking A. Yangdu to ask the Kamis to make an ASTK to your specs :)

Smooth handles and other quirks can be done as long as the kami nods his kami head :)
