Hi Everyone,

I'm new to the forums and starting a collection of Busse Kin knives. I just bought an RMD with red/black g10. I cleaned it with rubbing alcohol and applied tuf cloth to the blade , as well as the spine and the back end of the handle. now the red/black g10 almost has a white film or "dried out" appearance near the areas I wiped down. I tried removing it with rubbing alcohol with no effect. Is this just the g10 getting dried out from the tuf cloth? any suggestions on how to remove it? would oiling the g10 with mineral oil work?

Thanks a bunch!

Wash in soap and water and wipe off with mineral oil. That should get it back to looking new.

Yes it will but mineral oil protects the blade too and doesn't leave a residue on the scales.

Thanks..not to push this but has anyone else experienced this? I looked all over and haven't seen other complaints regarding the product leaving a White film on the scales

I think most people here use mineral oil. I have never even heard of tuf glide. Sounds like the mineral spirits may be reacting with the G10.

I believe Tuf Cloth/Tuf Glide leaves a residue that protects the blade, that may be the build up that you are seeing on the g-10 ?

The alcohol is what dried out the G10 leaving a white look to it. Apply a small amount of oil and it will color up again.

I quit using em long ago. Although they do protect and are fine for storing. I found that blades that I treated and would come back to sell would have smears, streaks or smudges and they couldnt be wiped off before Id ship em out without a few baths in soap & hot water. I like mineral oil. I would like a thicker mineral oil if there is such a thing that would adhere to the blade a little better.

Ever try Gibbs penetrating oil or corrosion block, there's also corrosion x. I've had good luck with these, I wouldn't use them around food though. I've got to give the mineral oil a try one day.

T the mineral oil I buy from the supermarket is meant to be used as a laxative and it has a syrupy consistency.

I used a blade stripper that discolored my g10 handles to a pukey yellowish color......

Just oil them up. They might end up turning darker than the original color but they won't have the dried out look. I prefer to rub in a bit of wd40. Seems to really soak in and it will dry and not leave that oily feel mineral oil will.

All I use on knives and guns is Militec-1. Great stuff, protects IMO better than Tough glide and I have used it on old black G10 folders that had whited out. It brought the black back to the g10 and seemed to be permanent at least I know it held up through several soap and water washings.

My guess would be that the alchohal dried the scales. Another vote here for mineral oil. The color should come right back.
