Tuf Cloth residue

Hey guys,

I recently applied tuf cloth and tuf glide to my bm 51. It has been ever 24 hours now and when it look at my blade, there is a thin residue left on it and, under light, "rainbow" discoloration can be seen where the ointment has dried. I understand how the tuf glide and tuf cloth work (it bonds with the steel). I could be wrong but i was under the impression that what makes tuf glide/cloth so great is that it dries completely dry, leaving a transparent, dry film on the steel. I was just wondering if this is completely normal and this is just how the product works, if this is how it works and you just wipe off the residue, or if this shouldnt be happening and it still is drying..

Any input is greatly appreciated!!!

(its my first knife worth real money and like an OCD person, i'm overly-careful with it)

maybe you put too much on your knife. I used it for years when I was selling cheap swords and I never had that problem. do a internet Search for them. they have a phone number. call them and ask them about it. they should be able to answer your questions for you.

Thanks, I'll definitely search online. negative on the phone thing, I'm not in the states...

*huh, couldn't find anything adressing the subject...*

could it be because it hasn't dried completely?
or like you said : i put too much on?
How much should i be using?

again any input would be awesome

ok I belive it was a 1-800 number but I do remember talking to them by email. look on the back of the tuff-cloth package. is there not a web site on it you can go to??

I wipe it over a blade, then immediately wipe it off with a cloth (gently). That way it leaves a microscopic layer of protection.

@locutus Oh cool, I try that out next time my knife needs some maintainence.

@blame it Oh good, I was kinda hoping that was the case. It would be rather frustrating to have to "develop" a new technique for maintainence. Knowing that this is just what happens is comforting.

Thanks to both you

Ouch, Ive done this before. Unfortunately that knife is now completely ruined and therefore useless to you, better be safe and just send it to me for proper disposal.

I highly doubt that Hardtripper. the staining only occured after i applied tuf cloth to the blade. Is it really possible for tuf cloth to destroy a blade... It wouldnt be as successful of a product if it could ruin your blade. I think i agree with Locutus and blame it on God.

He was just pulling your leg. lol.

I've used tuf cloth on my guns, knives and tool steel fixtures and vises for work. It won't hurt anything, But can leave an annoying white-ish residue on G-10. Rubbing alcohol will remove it. It is a decent product for normal corrosion protection.

haha , ok cool. I kinda figured he must have been joking.

About that rainbow residue. how can i remove it without removing the tuf cloth bond?

Just re apply and wipe clean with a dry cloth. The protection will still be on the metal after wiping with a clean dry cloth. Use your knife and enjoy it, since that is why you bought it isn't it?

Blessings,

Omar
