If I wipe my knives with a Tuff-Cloth can I still use it to cut food? Would the mineral oil cause any toxins to my health? I would like to use some of my EDC's to cut fruit, sandwiches, meat, etc. but worry about health concerns when doing so since I use the Tuf-Cloth. Thanks!

tuff glide says they are not FDA approved, and also that you should wash the blade before use with food, but they imply that it will be fine. I am paraphrasing from what i read on their website a few weeks ago, if it were my health i would hunt it down myself to be sure i am right, but i dont use the product, i was just looking around. I belive it is in their FAQ.

Unless you chug it, you should be fine. I'd rinse the blade off first before using it on food, then rinse it again and reapply the Tuf-Glide, if only to eliminate any taste of the lube.

Likely would require A LOT of exposure.... clean it off (or do what some people do, use mineral oil).

Have fun :D.

i dont think you need to re-apply after washing the blade, the tuf glide should stay. But anything that could come off will come off in the washing not the food.

It comes off really easily, you can rinse it, but any kind of washing will take the protectant right off.

Mineral oil isn't harmful, it just acts like a laxitative. You have to ingest more than what is on the blade though for it to induce any effect. It is what is in the oil that is the concern.

Sentry Solutions hasn't pursued FDA approval because it is very expensive and is not their target market. The individual components of Tuf-Cloth are safe, but have not been tested together in the ratios of their products.

I'd be more worried about what's on the fruit than what's on your blade after tuff glide has dried. Also, cutting acidic foods with carbon steel will leave an aftertaste.

Thanks for helping me out with my Tuf-Cloth question. I will research the web site and try and wash my blade off before and after touching food. I understand about the FDA approval. I don't think too many people ask about this kind of things when using an anti corrosive agent. :D

Like a idiot I didn't check the website out first. Here is the info from the site :

· Can I use my TUF-CLOTH treated knife to cut food?

None of Sentry Solutions products are FDA (Food and Drug Administration) approved. TUF-CLOTH's protection bonds to metal surfaces. This bonding reduces the possibility of transferring material to food items that might be cut. If you plan to cut food with a TUF-CLOTH treated blade, we suggest that you wash the blade first.

Sorry for taking up webspace....

 :D
