It has only been in the Spyderco Catalog since 2013. One of the few folders in CPM-3V which is a tough and wear-resistant steel mostly appearing in fixed blade knives. Although the blade length is 3.7" the cutting edge is reduced to only 3" due to the big finger choil.
The Spydie hole in mine was super sharp and you can easily cut yourself. It's also real tight to open and close but gets a little better with use. I don't know if any changes have been made but I've read and seen videos with the titanium FrameLock failing. I'm only mentioning it in passing for you to check into. It certainly is a tough folder.

The Tuff has been out over a year. Check out the one year review on YouTube. I decided to pick one up for Xmas for myself and use it for every single task in the house possible. I am not a woodsman of any kind, I work out of the house. So my uses are for anything a knife is needed for in the house. All cooking, eating and paper/ cardboard cutting is now being done with this lone knife.
I love the heft and size. The ability to really choke up on the knife is simply brilliant in its design. You have the size and weight of a larger knife that can also feel like a smaller knife for the real control based cutting. The fit and finish is great!

I absolutely love mine. Sees very regular pocket time. Is stiff to open when you first get it, but you either get used to it or it loosens up, or both I'm not sure. Still one of my favorites.
The only stiff part about it opening is the lockbar tension. Haven't touched my pivot screws at all but with a bit over 1 month of EDC'ing relieve lock bar tension and the blade will drop smoothly. There's a little picture thread of it over on Spyderco forums.

I wouldn't worry about the lock bar failing. Mine is solid as a rock. Besides, people have been using folding knives for centuries with NO blade lock. I personally think that all the hulaballoo about locking systems is a bit silly. With your index finger in the choil, even with NO lock the blade isn't going to fold up on you. Besides, the primary force of any knife is against the blade, which puts NO strain on the lock.
