Hey I ws just wondering if there is anyone here that has trained in Tulisan knife fighting? I believe that was Antonio Illustrisimo's system of the knife. Has anyone ever trained in it, and if so can you talk about it a bit, or can you compare it to other style? I was thinking of taking it up, but I just wanted to find out more about it. Thanks.

Hey Filam, what is it that you have against Tulisan knife fighting? Does your family system not compare? I seen you another another thread talking about your family systems, and how secret and dangerous it is. Right there tells me its not worth learning. It probably sucks!

Hey 69,

Here's some info. on Tulisan.

"Tony Diego and Topher Ricketts contributed some insights and techniques, but the bulk of the material was directly from Tatang. Actually I have an official document that was signed by Tatang naming me the heir and chief instructor of Tulisan knife fighting. This fact is not widely known"

Thanks you for the post and info edge fighter. You are much more help then filam. Filam is like a child. He needs to be slapped.

Thanks edge,
I will either e-mail him or call him. I realy want to learn Tulisan knife fighting. I would realy like to learn from Christopher Ricketts though, but we'll see. Thanks again.

i'm not familiar with Bakbakan Groups Tulisan method...but if you contact Guro Abon he can tell and show you Tulisan blade methods...his family, especially his uncle was a Tulisan commander...the name "Tulisan" became the infamous bandit name. the original name of the brotherhood was Hukbalahap=Hukbo Laban sa Hapon, meaning Forces/League of men Against the Japanese, and later on some of these members became the communist or rebel groups known as the NPA=New People's Army fighting against Ferdinand E. Marcos' regime.

Thanks guru Mike, but I was asking about the knife work from the Illustrismo system. Rey Galang of the bakbakan took the knife fighting from the Illustrismo system, added a little bit and now calls is Tulisan knife fighting. Its something that Rey Galang, Christopher Ricketts, Tony Diego and Antonio Illustrismo put together . The bulk of it is from the Illustrismo system. I was just wondering if anyone here has played in it at all? When I use to train in Sayoc Kali, my particular sayoc kali teacher seemed to be very competitive with it. For some reason he brought up Tulisan knife work all the time, but of course he always had to say something negative about it, which in turn tells me its probably pretty good.

I doubt the guru Aubon would know anything about this particular knife work unless he trained with the 5 pillars of kali Illustrismo. Then again I guess you never know.

yes Armbreaker 69...that was my point...the "Tulisan" from Bakbakan was just "the name" they gave to the system/style they came up with...maybe in reverence of the fighters. i'm just trying to add and make it known that there is a real "laban Tulisan" of Hukbalahap, which i think we need to clarify and differentiate for future references.

i apologize if i wasn't effective in my clarification.

anyway i guarantee you that Guro Abon knows the real "laban Tulisan"...he's family is Tulisan. :)

Guru Mike, there is also a guy in Florida, whose name I can't remember right now, who has a family system called Laban Tulisan.

There is also a guy in California named Nere Riodica, who teaches his family system of Kali called something something Tulisan. I hered both teachers are damn good. I took a couple lessons from one of Nere Riodicas students, he was very good, and had alot of knowledge of knife work. The guy in Florida has a web site, the guy in California don't.He is actually a Tae Kwon Do teacher, and only teaches his kali to selected students, thats what I was told anyway.

Hey guru Mike, one more thing, are you the guy Dennis said wants to build his own forge in his backyard to manufacture your own blades? If your the guy, Dennis said you went somewhere in California I believe a few weeks ago to learn how to make your own blades. That sounds pretty cool. How did that all go?

Once upon a time, when he was still an actual martial artist, Filam was into all that. He was a total knife freak for a while. Oh waite, I forgot, Filam's family has their own line of fighting knives for sale. They design them and sell them, they will even put poison on them for you the old way. So he says.

hi Joe...i didn't know you were a mod in here. i saw your posts on the other forum. interesting things you brought up re: "flow drills".

armbreaker 69...plain ol' mike is fine...noone calls me guro here. please email me...ekim60618@yahoo.com.

Dennis is a very close and endear friend of mine. it's a darn shame he doesn't want to share his knowledge anymore...but i won't give up. i'll learn his secrets. :)

sorry, i don't mean to detract from the current topic.

Hukbalahaps were spread out in the North during WWII, since informations were key to winning the war. small raids and ambush tactics were commonly used against the Japanese at the time. so again using the name "Tulisan" could be just to commemorate this brotherhood or somebody's relatives actually belonged to a "Hukbalahap" group and learned the specific FMA style used in that particular goup...most of these were probably the cinco teros types or tres puntos since they were easy to work with...after the war, some of the groups became bandits and were called Tulisan...if i remember correctly...the name tulisan actually came about because of the palm-leaf,straw hats or sometimes gourde hats that most of them wore...it was your typical farming hat to shade you from the sun which were pointed at the top...as they moved about in the cloaks of darkness (NINJA STYLE!). people can only see the sillhouettes of these men's hats...hence the name Tulisan...from root word "tulis" meaning sharp point...so it was this picture in the people's memories that they became really known for and not their knife-fighting.

some were goups of bandits and others became your modern day robin hood heroes...they were feared either way since they're movements were from different regions, and people didn't know if they were baddies or goodies.

i still remember my relatives whispering the words "hukbalahap" or "tulisan" come the evening's twilight. all doors and windows would be shut and lamps or torches dimmed as they moved about stealing people's livestocks. and this was already in the 1970's during martial law under Ferdinand Marcos. but by this time they were already known as NPA or New People's Army in Manila and by the government.
