Tulwar Replica.

Alot of the reading (fiction, nothing scholarly :) ) I've done recently has prominently featured a Tulwar as a primary weapon for the protagonists.

I know Cold Steel makes a functional replica Tulwar. Does any one know of another source for a decent replica? I'm just looking for as many options as possible at this time.

Also as I'm just starting my investigation can anyone reccomend any sources of information about this style of sword?

Thanks in advance for your time.

Cold Steel does not presently make a tulwar. They DO make a shamshir. I believe that they made a tulwar in the past. I don't know of any manufacturers that presently make a tulwar replica, but you might find a munitions-grade antique in decent shape on the 'bay or at Oriental Arms for not too much. :)

Not truly a Tulwar, it has been said that H.I.'s "Tarwar" is their representation of it. Not sure how correct that is but . . . something to consider.

Originals start below the $200 point and there are often "as new" late 19th century military issued examples with canvas scabbrds out there for less than one might think. A general internet search will point to quite a few possibles.

As in newly manufactured, The Cold Steel model was discontinued some time ago but you may find one lingering about at a retailer site (call, email for availability). There is another company that has been selling direct for more than a decade now www ancientarms dot com or dot biz. They sell both newly made, refurbished and entire antique arms.

Cheers

I have a 38" Tulwar blade coming from them. Thanks for the lead guys. Pics when it arrives.

Be very careful with the hilt size....many are quite small for Western hands. The disc pommel does not allow alot of hand movement.
