Do Chris Reeve offer the option of tumbled Seb scales, rather then beadblasted?

I know that you can send your knife in to have the blade re-tumbled, but would they tumble scales?

CRK will do any thing you want to the Ti handles....... as long as it's bead blasting. :p

Things like a tumbled finish can be done by a number of other folks though.

It's like what they said about the model T: 'you can have it in any color you want, as long as you want it in black.'

A google search on the matter ought to yield examples of handles that have been refinished, anodized, carved, and so on. There's a lot of people out there with a means to express their creativity.

You can ask, but I dont see them doing a stonewashed scale. Email them and see, let us know !

I read somewhere they're blades are not beadblasted but sandblasted.

The blades are tumbled, sometimes called stone washed. The scales and clip are bead blasted/sand blasted.

Bead blasting and sand blasting are the same thing. The size of the blasting medium used does give a difference in the look of the final finish though.

I dont think the will do it. They have their hands full with what they offer and dont have the resources for that kind of stuff

They will not tumble scales, I have already asked Heather

There rule of thumb is to only duplicate how the knife left them

You can order a plain jane sebenza with a polished blade, But if you send them a plain jane sebenza that didn't leave the factory with a polished blade they won't do it. I've tried to get blades & scales polished with no luck.

That's a shame. I had emailed CRK to ask, but haven't received a reply yet.

I've just bought a Hinderer XM-18 that came witha tumbled scale. I can tell that it is going to hide scratches and wear marks better than beadblasted Ti does, so thought it would be nice to get my Seb tumbled too.

To those interested, stone washing does not work very well on a scale that has already been bead blasted. The media used produces a rough finish, compared to that of a stonewashed blade. Stonewashing workes best on a freshly ground, satin finished blade. Stonewashing can be done on a set of Sebenza scales, but first, the bead blasted finish would have to be sanded off to a satin finish.
