Jeeze guys, he is a lot better in the cage than out.

Feel sorry for him the end of Oct, this little fun this morning he just got chased, ran up a tree and left to go about his business, this fall he would have wound up the main guest at a BBQ. ;)

you got any raccoons over in Oz? I'm thinking not or you probably wouldn't feel too bad for it. Imagine giant ill-tempered rats getting as big as 30 or 40 pounds and just about as intelligent as any animal you can think of. and the things got non-opposable thumbs they'l use to open coolers, packages, whatever. in some parts of this country they are the worst nuisance animals around, pushing native fauna out of their habitat. if you're gonna feel bad for animals, feel bad for the native wildlife the raccoons endanger.

runningboar: that dog looks to have a fine disposition. enjoying herself, isn't she?

Hunting coon with dogs is something I have always wanted to do. Most of my uncles and my grandfather have done it in their earlier days. I have never had the chance. A Friend of mine have often talked about getting a few dogs, but we haven't made the plunge yet. Cool pics!

Are Raccoons an introduced species?
If they are a pest and weight 40 pounds........
As they say in the States, Kill it and Grill it LOL

I know a guy that gets Coons to open the Fridge get a beer and open it for him.
Then he knocks them on the head and BBQ's them to go with his Beer.

no, they are native to the North (and south, I believe) American continent but, being the most intelligent scavengers I am aware of, have widened their range extremely. I am willing to bet that there isn''t a city on the continent that doesn't have a large population of raccoons breeding in it. They are one of the few animal that have increased their range with the expansion of humans and, being that they look cute and cuddly at a distance, are very dangerous to people who expect that they will act that way up close. They won't. Except for large predators, I can't think of another animal that is as ornery as a raccoon. When I go out in the woods, I might hang a bear bag but I'm doing it because of the raccoons moreso than bears.

Are curs a pure breed or a mix like bann dogs? up here in ontario, you can only hunt racoons with coon hounds, no other breeds are accepted.

Good dog! The central coast of caly has got coons that go at least 30# and they are mean. Seen two of them literally tear a full grown cat to pieces on the roof of a neighbors home and they will attack humans that just happen to get into their living area, which lately seems to be just about everywhere. They have a tendency to disappear in our area though. :D

Mountain Curs are a registered breed and used mostly as tree dogs and bay dogs. I am not sure about Canadian law but it doesn't make sense to me to say you can only use certain dogs for certain game, I wonder what their logic is on that? Chris

We have all kinds of wacky laws up here. Besides having a test for the hound, you can only hunt using single shots 22 for night hunts.

Of course at my friend's farm, varmints can be shot on sight.

Did some say fire hardened spear??

I used to wack them on the ass with my canoe paddle. No matter how you hand the food up, there'll always be one that some how gets to it.
