Tungsten Cerakote finish

I have never had a knife with this finish, and I am looking for some others impressions. It is on a small (~3") fixed blade made of 52100.

I generally am not a fan of coatings on blades, and usually end up stripping most of them off after they show some wear. But, this is my first blade in 52100 (I have a few in 1095, 5160, etc and haven't had any trouble keeping them up without a coating).

Is this finish especially durable so that it might last? (probably won't be batoning with this small knife - EDC and some bushcraft)

It there an issue with food prep and this coating?

What is the additional friction factor in slicing tasks? Is it usually rough, or can it be sanded smooth without removing it?

Is 52100 more prone to rust than other tool steels so that it requires more care or leaving the coating on?

Thanks for any info you can provide!

I dont have any answers for you

But I do know when it comes time to sharpen some day it will streak. Like all my kbar with powder coating over the years will And look horrible

But if you use them then the Mark's dont matter

52100 should behaive close to 1095 from patina/rust stand point it you are familiar.

Probably just use it as is, and see what happens. The tungsten/ceracoat should be harder to wear off or strip than a lot of coatings you are used to.

Thanks for the replies - I guess I will use it and see if the coating bugs me or not :)

Partially correct. Use will cause the a coating to, as you say, "streak."

Sharpening will not. You sharpen the edge of a knife....if your sharpener contacts any other part of your blade, you are sharpening sloppily, i.e., wrong.

And even that can be prevented with some masking tape.
