How has the black Tungsten DLC coating on your ZT 350 done over the years or months you have had it, especially if you use as an EDC knife?

Has it worn off in places or scratched or just changed appearance in any way?

or any of your tungsten coated Zero Tolerance knives, but especially those with big belles and wide large surfaces like the 0350, 0300, 0200 etc.

I've got a 0300 and a 0350 with coated blades, and have been using them as part of my EDC rotation for a couple of years. The DLC on both blades has held up quite well, it looks a little worn but it's still quite even with some barely noticeable superficial scratches. The colour of the blades seems a shade lighter than when I first bought them.

These are my only coated folders (apart from some Cold Steels, which I stripped), so I don't know how it would compare to other brands.

I'm sure that it will start wearing off just like any coating, but it seems to be quite resilient.

Thanks Franciscomv,
I just picked up a 350 coated blade and really like the look of it. I was just kind of curious if it would stay that nice or become worn and used over time. The manufacturers description make it sound like it is indestructible and should last the life of the blade. But like everything else, it looks great when it is new.

Would be very interested to see if others have had the experience Francisomv had or have you seen your blade begin to age and wear?

The dlc coating is VERY tough. For example, I cut through a soda can with my 0350, afterwards I saw what appeared to be scratches on the coating, but I was wrong. Washed the blade off with soap and water and the marks came right out. Basically what happened was the "scratches" were actually deposits of aluminum left in the coating. The coating actually ground away the aluminum where it rubbed as it passed through the can. My 0350 has one small set of scratches, and they were completely caused by a sharpening mishap with a diamond stone.

Its not unscratchable, but its about as close as a blade coating can get.

As for the color fading a bit, just wipe it down with a light coat of oil, and bam, its back to a nice rich black again.

very interesting,
Have you seen any torture tests on youtube or online? I have done a few searches and can't seem to find anything. I know that if you send a scratched or scuffed blade to Kershaw, they will not rehab the blade coating. Not really a big deal, I know, the s30v steel is pretty much bullet proof and the coating is more cosmetic than functional, but I like the look and want to keep it for as long as I can.
