Tungsten DLC Coating on ZT 0350

Hello fellow knife addicts! I have a question for you:

I recently received my very first ZT knife, a ZT 0350. I absolutely love this blade, however I noticed upon opening it that there were a couple of spots on the blade that seemed to be missing coating (like small silver/gray dots). I wasn't sure what to do, so I washed the blade & they were still there. I then put a small amount of Camellia oil on the blade (which I use on all of my black coated blades), and I noticed that the cloth I used to apply the oil then had black on it. The DLC coating on the blade then appeared splotchy. I don't think this is supposed to happen. I contacted Kershaw & they said it was not normal for this to happen. Did I do something wrong by putting this oil on the blade? Any thoughts??

Never heard of that. The DLC on my ZDP mini-cyclone has held up well for the past few years. No issues on mine.

No, i'm sure it has nothing to do with the oil you used. Pics? I just want to see how serious it is because my 0350 DLC coating isn't perfect but at least the coating is still there you know

Nope, you didn't do anything wrong. My 0350 had the exact same blotches which makes for a very poor look. I e-mailed ZT, but the just of it is that I am stuck with the knife as is unless I can send it in - wouldn't have been a problem if I weren't halfway around the world. Shipping would cost the same as a new one.

I wasn't happy at first, and told KAI that I was used to better QC from them, but there is not much to be done. Perhaps you can send yours in!
