Turboflame lighters

Anyone have one? Really want one but worried about the refill process, if you have one what fuel would you recommend?

Or should I just get a Zippo?

It's a chinese jet lighter. Your better off either a) buying a $3 jet from DealExtreme

or

B) getting a high quality jet that's made in Japan, as they are the world leader in that technology.

I'm partial to either the Windmill JP:

or the Blazer "little buddy"

Whatever you buy, make sure to use premium butane (not Ronson) to keep the lighter from getting clogged.

You asked the right question about fuel. The reason why torch lighters seem to "die" after a while isn't because they break, but because they get clogged with soot build-up from dirty butane fuel.

Most butane refills that you get aren't very well filtered and contain lots of contaminants that turn to soot and clog your lighters up. This happens from the cheap-o gas station lighters to your highest end Dunhills. (I've killed quite a few torch lighters myself until I was shown the light.)

Probably the best lighter butane fuel you can get is Vector butane, which has been filtered 5x compared to the regular stuff you get in cigar shops that have been filtered 2-3x, or the drugstore/supermarket junk.

Use the the right refills and you will notice less soot build-up and longer-life of your torch lighters.

As for which lighter, Windmill is great as well as the Thunderbird insert for the Zippo.

So that`s why had to send my primus back two times (I was filling it with ronson) but each time I got new one.

Is the Thunderbird is better than the Z-Plus? Years ago I picked up 3 Z-Plusses. One worked great (but I lost it), one sorta worked, and one never worked.

I noticed that the lighter the OP referred to says that it "can work up to altitudes of 9842 feet (3000 meters) and doesn't "self-combust" at high altitudes." Are there lighters like this that work at higher altitudes? Living in Utah, I can find myself at 10,000+ feet fairly regularly.

I did a search for high altitude lighters and their idea of high altitude is different than mine. Many of the ones listed as high altitude would work up to 7,000 ft.

Well, I guess that I have found my own answer. It looks like this Xikar works to at least 10,000 ft:

I am sure that there are others out there as well.

Yes. Agree with this. I tried using Ronson butane on a Vector Hybrid, to no avail. Then I bought two cans of Vector butane for $20, and they work wonders. Great fuel.

I've had some cheaper butane lighters, and purchased a Zippo Blu, and enjoy it a great deal, I much prefer the flint striker to the piezo ignition, I've worn one of those out. Burn hot, and is pretty stylish.

Any Idea where to buy the Primus Powerlighter in the US...?
Thanks

Even cheap lighters usually work well and reliably if you use good butane. Vector or King. Never ever use Ronson. Not even once.
