I was told at the knife meeting about a product called "Turco" used as a pre heat treat dip for Carbon steel.
Suppose to make the scale come off really slick!
Anybody know where I can get some?

I tried the old Borax solution trick poor results.

Help:D

Hi Robert,
I use Turco as a pretreat prior to heat treat. In my experience it doesn't work well as a dip...dipping seems to make the coating way too thick. For Turco to work well it should be as thin a coat as possible. I spray it on with a small paint gun...one very thin coat. I understand that it's possible to thin Turco so it can be used as a dip but I haven't found the magic ratio yet.

Good luck,
Cecil

Where can you get some of this TURCO. ON LINE? Your time is appreciated.

I seem to recall a conversation with Ken McFall at K & G that he was going to have to discontinue Turco because of hazardous material shipping restrictions.

I never had good luck with it myself. If you finish above 200 grit it tends to cause pitting. I bought a surface grinder and no longer worry about scale.
