In a word, SUCKED! Only got the chance to go three days this past weekend. Weather was cold windy and rainy for the last two days. Didn't hear much gobbling or see any Toms, except for a jake and Tom who were about 100 yards away. Could stop them with my calls and make the Tom display, but apparently not seductive enough to call them in. Or, they had their own agenda and place to be, which didn't include my direction. I think the rainy and windy weather certainly affects what they do, at least where we hunt.

If I was going to hunt deer, I could have CLUBBED at least three of them. I had a small group of 6 deer come right at my set-up. Three of them were within 5 yards of me. They couldn't wind me, and it was totally cool that they couldn't figure out what I was. In fact, I saw more deer than turkeys the entire weekend.

So, how did everyone else that hunts those damn birds do this season?

Sorry you didn't get chance at a turkey.

"Only got the chance to go three days this past weekend."

Curious about this statement though. How long are your weekends? For most people they last two days.

Heading out Saturday for ther first time this year - we had a real early spring so I'm not as optimistic as I usually am opening day, but one does what one can:). Supposed to be raining here all weekend too.....

It has been a good spring for me. Limited out early and have been calling for buddies who cant. Been able to witness 7 birds meet there maker. Most have been dumb love hungry 2 year olds. We has a great hatch 2 years ago. Sorry for the blurry cell pic.

Good Hunting to all [Be Safe]

Killed just one.

I had been hunting regular, and was skunked. Driving around in the National Forest, I spotted a decent Tom walking along a trail.
Used the HBAR with scope, and nailed him with a 64 grain Winchester SP.

He was delicious.

Once my oldest was old enough, I quit buying a tag and just "guide" for the boys. Two hunting now and they've tag-teamed on birds every year. Here's this years' Tom. We chased him all around about 100 acres of woods and field before he got fooled.

HomeBru! Nice job... getting the young-un's out and hooked. Best thing you can do, less likely for them to get into trouble when they are hooked on the outdoors and hunting. Great bird by the way! Give a big atta-boy to your son and a big  for you.

There are so many turkey's on our place in SD that you can't shoot anywhere without hitting one. (ALMOST)

ya'll did good, I didn't get any, couldn't get them to come within 50 yards of me, the toms were roosting with the hens, I got to watch them strut for two days, and had a hen call back to my slate call which was worth not shooting any.....I had a great time, learned a hell of a lot.......that's better than shootin one.........ahhh hell who am I kiddin........lol........

I am really lucky to live in a State that has a good Turkey population and Private land that has more Turkeys in that County and is always the top producer out of all the other Counties.! Hawkins County, Tenn.* Lets just say we eat a lot of wild Turkey every year and the best part is you are in the woods and away from the City life and in Gods Country even if we never shot another Turkey we would still go. Good hunting to all.!

Sounds like everyone on here ,is doing it right. Been sitting it out ,my one friend is trying to land his daughters first bird here. #1 BE SAFE. and Good hunting.

I saw several including four gobblers togeather, but none came close enough for a shot.I heard seven gobble one morning.
Maybe next year the good lord willing.

One of the birds in the pic made its way into some gumbo today.
