Turkey Season Bucks

I prefer cleaning my turkeys with the older (thin blade steel) Buck 121, so one of them will be along to (hopefully) clean one. I like a Buck 112 as my general purpose knife while turkey hunting; I'll take this old two dot as turkey hunting has been its primary assigned responsibility. OH

You always have great action shots OH. Seems
You can produce pictures of any species of game animals at will. I was threatened and almost atacked by a turkey in a residential neighborhood recently those spurs on their legs are no joke.

Thank you! Although wild Toms are normally very skittish of people, a semi-tame, angry suburban Gobbler would be a formidable foe if you weren’t armed - those spurs are for real - a giant gamecock! OH

He was stalking me. I stood tall and raised my arms and stomped at him. Thinking I’d chase him off. No luck he got real aggressive a lady with an umbrella saved me.

I was armed but was glad it didn’t become physical.

A small kid would be in serious trouble against him.

If it were my neighborhood he’d be in the oven.

OH - I have that same 2 dot no knick knife. On those days I feel really old school I’ll carry it and a series 70 Colt together.
I live in a small town and this time of year you don’t have to look far to find a bird in full strut. We had an ornery old Tom that hung out near the elementary school and wouldn’t allow morning recess. Early one morning a couple of local teenagers tree called him in to the swing set. A load of 6’s put a stop to his harassment.
That was 2 years ago and just yesterday morning I heard a bird gobble over in that direction.

Canvsbk, in your area they allow shooting on school grounds?
OH, I like your 2 dot 112. Your pump is not a Browning and it has an
extended choke (a Briley?) on a Winchester. DM

David, that pump is indeed a Winchester M1300. My Dad bought that shotgun (with a 30" barrel) in the mid 1980's as a backup to his semi-auto for waterfowl hunting, but he never liked a pump and gave it to me. I bought a 22" Winchoke turkey barrel for it along some Williams Rifle sights and a Pure Gold .670 extended choke tube (the tube you see in the photo). It was made for specifically for patterning Hevi-Shot 13 loads (I use their 12 GA, 3", 2 OZ. Magnum Blend load). I have had to retire the shotgun (after killing many gobblers) because it jolts the damaged vertebrae in my neck too severely. I now hunt turkeys with a 12 GA Browning Gold Hunter and a Carlson's .680 flush choke tube - the gas action and the slightly more open choke, while not mild, is much milder on the neck than my old setup. This is my current turkey rig (also with bolt on rifle sights). Note how well the Bucklite 422 matches the Browning! OH

The umbrella was blue with lots of yellow smiley faces. Turns out angry turkeys are afraid of smiley faces! That lady had my back and I give credit were it is due.

She said they called the police. The turkey chased the patrol car down the street. Then it took a week to make its way back.

A friend of mine went turkey hunting. We told him how to use a turkey call. He came back empty handed. But said the more he called the more turkeys he heard but could never get one to come to him.

This went on for several days. Turns out he was close enough to a farm that had penned turkeys that could hear and answer him.

OH, I like that Browning Gold. It has more subtle lines than the A5. Is it gas operated? DM

Well, I switched up on ya jec88; last minute change to the Buck 110 LT in lieu of my usual Buck 112 - made no difference in getting the job done, but sure is light on the belt! Monday morning in Edgecombe County NC, hunting in the swamps near the Tar River. OH

Well, you could do something about that! You know, a public service, and of course a chance to use your Buck hunting knife. OH
Unfortunately, I live in California . The Turkeys seem to know the areas where they are safe :p. I'am waiting for them to be in the right spot and the right time :D.
