Looks like a bearded Viking axe sort of excuse my ignorance but why is it called a Turkish axe ? Is it a brand or where its from regardless I think it definitely would make great splitter.

Are not bearded axes designed for hewing timber?

Pardon my n00bness, but I don't think you should subject it to the trauma that splitting wood would put on the unsupported beard. I'd be afraid of cracking the eye.

It's very nice and has some neat markings.

Its a common shape found in turkey . This one is pretty old . Yeah maybe heavy splitting could be risky .
Pretty loong handle ? Markings are probibly the makers marks , kinda look like the turkish flag star and moon .
I have a pocket knife with similar marks .

I'm almost sure that this axe is not Turkish. The axe is normal bearded shape which is common for Central and East Europe.
The same shape axes is produced by Germany, Austria, Bulgaria...
About markings - as you can see at the attached photos has almost the same markings, but they are produced in Austria and Germany at the beginning of the previous century...

Im new to axe stuff , i didnt know what type of axe this was .
I found it here in turkey and it belonged to a old turikish farmers grandad .
Thanks for the input.

It could be a axe made in Turkey Bearded axes were and are made all over the world .

Im not sure how to edit the thread title ?
Should be .... "Bearded axe , possibly turkish ? "
The stamps look like they could be ottoman ?

I wouldn't worry about the title it's fine. Tuesday I will post some pics of a Nordic bearded axe just got today kind of similar it's a old pattern made all over the world yours could. very well be Turkish.

Sounds good ! Very cool axe style . Didnt know they were so common . Look fwd to seeing more pics . This one
Was lots of fun , chopped some small rounds up .
Interested to hear if anyone knows what the handle would
Normally look like ?
