The axe is the oldest war weapon and is also used in our day as an engineering weapon. The teber is a war weapon that generally private guards and dervishes among the monarch's entourage used that has a crescent shaped edge, sometimes two, and was also a dervish symbol. Edged parts of the axes and tebers that were close combat weapons were made of iron and their handles from wood. Even though not many, iron grips are also seen. Axes and tebers that could not maintain much importance in the Ottoman army because they were not very practical to use have generally been used as a ceremonial tool in the army. Within the Mehter Ocak (hearth) groups known by the name Zülüflü Axmen were established.

In the Military Museum collections Turkish Persian and Memluk tebers are present and they are differentiated by the decorations they bear. Oldest tebers are the Memluk tebers from the XV and XVI centuries. Memluk tebers present a distinction from other tebers with sülüs epigraphs placed inside medallions filled with dense and serpentine branches. Ottoman tebers on the other hand, date to the XVIII century and simplicity is in the foreground in decorations. Simple rosettes, and çarkıfeleks (an ivy flower) and Seal of Suleyman made by engraving are frequently used motifs. Additionally, names of the master and the owner and dates made are also present in Ottoman tebers. In Persian tebers on the other hand, figurative compositions are noted. Especially, hunting scenes, human and animal figures are made by low embossing technique. Decorations with plant forms are also seen
