I’m ganne spend some time in Turkey for a vacation and wondering about the local knife law. Im planning to carry small locking folder for EDC. Im spending time in Istanbul, other smaller city’s, the coastline and some day hiking into the back country. Off cours im not ganne carry the knife on the plain or other all-world-round forbidden knife places.

What and where can or can’t I carry?? I was thinking of a Spyderco Delica or Byrd Meadowlark with a 3inch / 7,5 cm plain edge blade in my pocket and a Leatherman Wave in my backpack.

Any Turkish knife lovers how can help me or have other travelling tips for me!

I guess we're a little short of Turkish knife knuts ... at least, watching this forum. :) I suggest you contact a Turkish consulate in your country before you go.

Enjoy the vacation! Turkey is a great country for exotic sights.

Sorry, I just saw this thread now. I don't know if you still need the info. Basically, weapons laws in Turkey are a bit nebulous and change constantly. So, it's hard to give firm advice. As a rule, non-auto folders of a reasonable size (3-3.5" or so) will be OK.

Keep in mind that there are metal detectors in lots of places these days: federal buildings, malls, museums, the subway, bigger hotels, some tourist attractions, etc. If you do carry a knife, it will probably get detected at some point and it's up to the discretion of the police officer, security guard, jendarme, etc. about what to do next. Most of the time, you'll be asked to surrender the knife if you want to enter...but you may get it seized. So, don't carry your $500 custom!

Keep it non-tactical looking and keep your passport on you (to play the "stupid tourist" if you need to) and you shouldn't get into trouble. I routinely carry knives in Turkey, but I shy away from "weapon-looking" knives (like my Emersons and stuff) in favor of Spyderco Delicas and other innocuous folders.
