I see a lot of love for Turley knives on Bushcraft USA, but I rarely see the name come up here. Does anyone have experiences, pictures, etc. they'd like to share?

That Iz's product is not well known away from his 'home turf', says he has found his chosen niche. There are enough fan boys there to keep him in business.

Just thought it was interesting (and thanks for the info) that a blade so well known in one forum rarely gets mentioned on THE knife forum. It's cool that he's getting enough business from word of mouth. It'd be nice to do something you love all day.

All forums seem to have some must have gear reccomendation that essentially becomes a legend regardless of merit because it's what all the Joneses on the forum own and perpetually brag about in their posts. Eventually, members pass up other products that may very well be better just to own the forum favorite and then give overwhelmingly positive reviews just to agree with what others have said or comparing apples to oranges. Buschraft USA is essentially the storefront for Turley knives, his name or his product is mentioned everywhere. I do believe that it was Iz's dedication to BCUSA and some dumb luck that have lead to his success, as one of the most active contributors Iz is largely responsible for the success of BCUSA, it's a symbiotic relationship. That said, if he had a superior product, word of mouth would have spread the name Turley knives on more than one forum. Given demand for his product with a very narrow marketing strategy, it's not hurting his buisness to miss out on opportunities on other forums.

That's interesting and makes a lot of sense. Thanks for shedding some light on this.

Just saw this post and thought I might respond. Iz makes a fine knife, and I don't understand the underlying resentment of some of the previous posts in this thread. Just because he choses to stick close to BCUSA doesn't automatically make him a second rate maker. Another maker that sticks close to BCUSA is Cody (Adventure Sworn knives). I own several Adventure Sworn knives in my collection and believe them to be of the highest quality, above and beyond some of the very popular fixed blade makers here on this forum, imo. In the end, it's about the knives. And that has nothing to do with a particular forum or a popularity contest.

If you are interested in a particular maker's work, I'd suggest getting a hold of an example and taking a look for yourself. It's difficult to critique any maker's work, solely based on lobs from the peanut gallery.

His knives are ridiculously priced IMHO. I tried to purchase two of his blades to see what the hubub was all about. Within seconds of a knife being offered I bought it using paypal and my payment went through. Later my payment was refunded with different excuses. BCUSA has a strong clique. Don't dream of offering a different opinion.
