Back in the very early 80's my grandfather gave me some money and told me to go to our local firearms store and get myself a decent knife. I was stunned, you see my grandfather was.... well for want of a better description a hard but fair man who, and I don't mean this nasty, had never ever given me anything before. So, him giving me some money and telling me to go and buy myself a decent knife was special, very special.

So off I went to the store. In between all the shotguns, rifles, reloading equipment and other assorted stuff was this lit glass display case and in it were a collection of Buck knives. Anyway after much deliveration I bought a Buck 110FG. I carried that knife for twenty years as my EDC and loved using it.

Eventually though I decided to renegate it to my winter coat pocket, I fancied something a little lighter to carry and something with a pocket clip instead of a sheath on the belt.

I tried all different knives and makers, Benchmade, Spyderco, CRKT, Camillus, even CRK Sebena all great knives but not one that I was really really happy with. They were either too big, too small, didn't hold an edge well enough were hard work to sharpen etc. etc.

About a month ago I decided to give Buck another try, I didn't before because ... well I'm not sure but I just didn't like the look of the models which were available (Sorry) but eventually I decided to splash the cash on a Buck Mayo Tnt. It was a little more than I wnated to spend but I thought what the hell I had bought a Sebbie so sell that and put the cash to the Mayo.

What a differece. I just love this knife it has what I have decided was missing from the others "Character" and I guess the fondness of a company which reminds me of happy days hunting with my grandfather and learning bushcraft skills with him in the outback of Australia. He passed away a few years ago now, and I had begun to forget him a little, but now each time I draw my Buck he pops into mind instantly.

I'm so glad I've found Buck again, call me a sentimental fool if you want but that's what Buck means to me. A great knife, a constant companion, and great memories of happier days.

Thanks,

Tony
