Hello Traditional BladeForum gurus!

As title says, I'm turning 50 and need a proper folder to celebrate it. I've narrowed it down to a traditional folder, ideally tusk or mammoth slabs, high quality steel, heat treat, fit/finish for around $500 + or -. Also of a larger size, 3.5" and up closed, with 2-4 blades.

Any help appreciated. Happy New Year!

Drop into the exchange area and take a look, maybe post in the custom makers area. We have several folks in the forums here that can make what you want.

First of all, congrats!

second I'd recommend Tim Britton's knives. He's got plenty of stuff in that budget and can make plain, or fancy, whichever way you prefer. He works with stag, MOP, ivory and pretty much anything you'd like him to work with. His base steel is BG-42 but he also does stuff in S35V or other steels.

Besides that he's just a great guy.

Don't forget to look at the dealer section of the exchange. Be sure to check their websites for other knives that may not be listed here.

If you are willing to go with a different type of handle option, the Case/Bose collaboration knives are well regarded also. If you're set on ivory or mammoth covers, it will be hard to find many options among production knives. You would probably be better off getting a custom knife.

Avoid buyer's remorse. If you know you want ivory or mammoth covers, get them on your knife. Probably anyone of the better custom knifemakers can make a knife to please you.
