A few weeks ago I made a quick release dangler loop for leather sheaths:
Then I got to thinking that it might work on some of my Kydex sheaths also. The kydex sheath that came with my SEAL Revolver from 2003 has tons of eyelets and 2 at the top so I lashed a 1" d-ring to it with heavy duty nylon thread (Zip Ties work better) for an experiment. I put the dangler loop on my belt then clipped the sheath to it. It worked pretty good. Then all I needed to do was use a piece of para cord or nylon leg strap I had to lash the sheath to my leg.
The dangler loop attached to the sheath:
On my Left leg using Para cord:
On my left leg using a 1" nylon leg strap:
The Kydex sheath that came with my old school Tsunami has snaps on the belt loop for quickly putting it on and taking it off ones belt. It also had a plastic slider so that you can attach a nylon drop loop. Since I like leather and have my new quick release dangler loops I figured I would modify it's sheath to work with the loop. Picked up a 2" and a 2.5" stainless Rings, then I cut the sliper off the sheath. The steel rings slid onto the belt loop nicely and the dangler clip attached nicely to the ring
2.5" ring:
A close up of the 2.5" ring and dangler clip:
The 2" ring:
Neither ring get in the way of the handle when the sheath is lashed to your leg. The main difference is that the 2.5" ring makes the sheath ride lower. Kind of like where the 2" ring makes the handle sit. Wore them around my apartment for about an hour and liked them a lot. There is a storm coming in, but if it clears at all this weekend I'll strap on the sheaths for a hike to further test them out.
Thanks for looking and feel free to post comments and questions!
