Turning CRKT Auto-LAWKS back into LAWKS?

hey buddies,
has anyone tried to convert a CRKT AutoLAWKS folder back into a CRKT LAWKS folder?

in 99% of all the use of the folder i don't need the "fixed" blade of the AutoLAWKS safety system, but always have to flip the AutoLAWKS safety off, before folding the blade back into the frame.

i prefer the LAWKS much more than the AutoLAWKS, but LAWKS is no longer in production, so i thought about converting an AutoLAWKS folder back into a LAWKS folder

is disassembleed both and the LAWKS / AutoLAWKS parts look different, so does also the inside of the frame.

if i remove the AutoLAWKS spring, i, theoretically, have a simple LAWKS, but if i do so, the AutoLAWKS safety is free to rotate back and forth and has no fixed "on" and "off" point in the slit in the frame.

my guess is to use a kind of washer and clench it a little bit, but what to choose? wikll this interfere with the opening and position of the blade centered in the middle of both frame parts?

has anyone done that before and has a hint for me?

I dont know if there's a way to turn off auto lawks, i'm leaning heavily toward probably not. My hint would be to invest in a new knife! Have a look at Spyderco, Benchmade, or Kershaw.

You can easily turn AutoLAWKS off with a drop of super glue. As far as converting it to manual lawks, I'm no help there.

thanks for your answers, but i don't wanna buy a new knife, i like my CRKTs

super glue is no option either, cause i wanna be able to use the LAWKS in the 1% JIC.

thought perhaps there is a way to convert it back to manual LAWKS.

any more ideas?

What is the problem with having to disengage the autolawks, It quite simple and I can still close with one hand, Could be a lefty thing never tried right handed. Just give it some time it will become second nature

I did it on my m16 edc. All you have to do is take the knife apart and remove the spring that activates the auto lawks. Then, very carefully VERY VERY VERY SLIGHTLY bend the part of the ring that goes around the pivot SLIGHTLY. This is to give it some friction and keep it from slipping in and out of 'lawks mode.' Don't forget to lubricate. Mine works great even after 3 years of hard use and the manual lawks feels the same as any other.

He probably bent the whole disk but very gently. Like trying to form it into a slight "c". Take the disk and grab it with both hands and try to fold it in half. Just do this very slightly as in 10% bent or so.

open up the knife and take a look see and then go from there my friend. Although I doubt we will here from you again being that your last post was some time ago anyways I wonder how it did come out.

hello my blade-friends,
i tried to get the AUTO LAWKS spring out of one of my crkts, which is no problem.
the AUTO LAWS then is "only" a LAWKS, but the problem is that th rotating disk with the LAWKS knob on top is so loose then, that it is able to rotate completly free within its radius and so, in the open blade position, it is sometimes locked in and sometimes not.
i compared the AUTO LAWKS disk with an LAWKS safety crkt disk and they look different in shape.
there was no chance to press the disk a little bit with the liner-screws or something else.
so my problem, is still there.

i read more than i post, 'cause i'm from germany and english is not my mothertounge, hope you don't mind my bad english and that i'm not such an active posting member here. but i read and learn a lot.

thanks

As far as I understand the problem is not enough friction from the auto-lawks disc without the "auto" spring and it moves completely freely
I would suggest that you could take small drill (or other small tool) and hit it with a hammer to make a few small "detents"/bumps on the disc. That could increase friction from that part.

I can tell you that works. Did it on a little M-16 I got for free someplace. :)

@idaho:
that's exactly the problem, what you describe.
i'll try that, if the spare parts from CRKT have arrived here.
