I need to turn some titanium to make a guard, ferruls, and pommel for a dagger. I have plenty of carbide tools but I don't have to the jigs to turn inside and outside curves yet, so I was thinking about shaping some tool steel cutters and using them.
My question:
If I run the lathe real slow and use lots of coolant, will the tool steel work on ti??
Thanks for any tips you can give me!
Michael

hey,Michael
the tool steel should work fine, like you said just watch your speed, and be patient, missed you at the hammer in,maybe you can make it next time

Sorry about not showin up Tracy!!!
I'm a lump of **** when it comes to goin places.
I really wanted to be there too, that's the screwy thing!
Next time a hammer in or some such comes up I'm doubling my meds, maybe that'll get me in gear.
Thanks for the help on the ti turning!!!

L6, you may want to check out the flashlight site www.candelpowerforums.com and check their manufacturing/materials forum. They do mostly lathe work over there, of course, and the topic of titanium seems to come up pretty frequently.
