Spyderco fans:
any misreprsentation on the TUSOK is my fault.
I believed however mistakenly that it was a real project..
I have misunderstood the whole project as discussed over the last two years and I have misunderstood Spyderco's intentions..
This has led to the telephone game breakdown.. You know where you tell a person the red cart is drawn by a white horse and by the time it goes around the room being told to the next person..its a gold chariot with a flying dragon..
OK its my fault. not Spydercos..but MINE..
Spyderco has told me they never stated nor posted over the past that the TUSOK was in the 2003 lineup..So that is my fault..That's what I thought I understood..
I was wrong..
Its not Spydercos fault but mine..The olds assume thing..ass of u & me....
I'm sorry for getting any of you imnterested in a non knife..

AS for its pictures. I did not take them or post them..but since it was after the Shot Show where the knife was on open display..for over a week...I never got mad @ the photog..He meant no harm...George was just excited...and Simona did her usual beautiful pictures.. But I see that Spyderco has told me that I caused great harm to any possible design patent for showing it to the world..That the Taiwanese et al are now going to steal it..
I'm sorry if I caused all that trouble..again I misunderstood what Showing it in public ment..

I thought since one of my guys made a plastic version for me to cut with since Spyderco said it would not nor could not make a Drone for me to practice with and evaluate..
I mean looks are OK but does it work in MBC? Does it work as a SDR?
On my private forum..I told my aching Guntaholics and TUSOKwannabees that instead of bothering Spyderco..to hold their breaths and to get plastic versions and tell me their reations..To help me better the knife..
I was basing it on the TUSOK having been shown @ THe Shot Show and @ Eugene..I mean..its my students playing and giving me feedback..

Big mistake..

I seem to have drummed up interest in a non-project..I was told I should deal with all the disapointed Spyderco fans that I led astray..
That I have taken the thunder from the TUSOK and others..
That I single handedly have popped the big ballon..

Spyderco fans.. I do not know how to make it up to any of you..
I made a big mistake..There is not going to be a TUSOK. I misunderstood. I was told there are other hot new Spyderco knives to come out and the TUSOK is not one of them nor is it going to be on the list of to be made knives..
I thought it was and I mistakenly brought that enthusiasm to the forum..over the last couple of years..
Please accept my aplogies..

It is my fault as the designer-inventor not Spydercos to get the story straight..
I've made a grave error..

Please do not get mad at Spyderco for my misundeerstanding & mistakes..
You dealers and Distribs? I have no way to express my regrets and I profusely aplogise if I've caused you problems with Spyderco..

Carlos: I'm sorry for causing any problem on "your" Spyderco forum..or between you , Sal and Spyderco...

I will not post again about designs or ideas..
I obviously only cause trouble..

I'm on my way to Israel to teach the 5th Commandments of Steel...
I'll be gone till June 22..
Sorry...

Bram

Dear Bram,
First, I am very impressed the way you take all the guilt upon your shoulders, but I don't think you deserve it. Everyone interested knew about the Tusok and anyone really interested had the opportunity to see the plastic drone. Even I could make a working knife so very similar (practically identical) to the Tusok after I saw the mockup.
So a chinese (or whatever) replica could be made. But I don't recall seing any Gunting knockoffs. And I think the reason is because the Gunting is destinated to a quite narrow market segment, to people who know about MBC and the advantages of a good knife, therefore won't pick up a cheap and bad imitation. I dare to think that the Tusok comes in the same category. It's not a Delica (maybe Spyderco's most copied model), a knife made for everyone, but an MBC tool. I don't think that the Tusok, with that peculiar hump, would appeal to a non knife person (because they are the ones who buy those 6$ junks).
To be frankly, even I, when I first saw the Gunting, I thought "what an ugly knife!" Of course, I did not knew anything about it and MBC. Later on, I became fascinated by it. :)
I am truly sorry that Spyderco might have problems because of those pics. It is regretable that they won't make the Tusok, considering Spyderco's standards we all know and appreciate. Of course, you could have the Tusok made by someone else, paying royalties to Spyderco if they agree, or totally rebuild the knife which would be an extreme solution and possibly not the best one :(

Too bad about the Tusok. There is an alternative in the Spyderco lineup, for those who do not insist upon kinetic opening: the Kiwi. It has a straight, Wharncliffe-style blade, but for those of us who like that blade style just fine, I highly recommend it. Its blade is small enough not to excite the gendarmes in places that prohibit blades over 2.5 inches, yet the handle is substantial enough for a very secure grip. It also has no pocket clip, but I do not trust clips to retain knives anyway, so that does not bother me. Another good small knife is the Harpy.

IMHO

I don't see what the problem with showing off the Tusok was. Once the knife was produced a company may have choosen to rip it off anyways. What does it matter if a proto-type or the real thing was shown off or not?

Going by that mentality why produce knives at all, since they can be ripped off at anytime, Why should it matter at what time the model or design is stolen?( I am not saying stealing a design doesn't matter).

But I guess what is done is done...
To bad too, it looked like a really sweet knife.

Potential copies are a point, but a minor one. the announcement of a 2003 delivey date was the issue. There are no such plans at this time. The Tusok is/was still in the conceptual development stage and there are no answers to "if, When or how much?". I prefer not to post public pics or make announcements of delivery until we have that information. The early pics of the ATR are a perfect example of the problems created with too early of an announcement.

I think perhaps Bram misunderstood my note to him. If Bram has chosen not to go forward with the Tusok, that is cerainly his call. Probably would be a good idea to wait until Bram returns from his trip before pushing this thread further out of reality.

H Kenpoman. I don't think "willing" is or was the question. Demand, cost and timing are the questions. Spyderco is "willing" to invest in any new design if there is some assurance that it will be; well made, designed well, well received and profitable.

Sal:
Thanks for the quick reply. I hope that you can find a way to make it and make you money. I know it cost to make a new knife. Please keep us informed.
