Don't you just hate it when you accidentally see something relating to a series or movie you are watching, that gives away a spoiler that just flat out ruins the rest of the video for you?

I recently started watching a series on Hulu called "Harrow" and was just starting season 2 and was curious if there were more seasons after that or if it was canceled? Only to see a thing on google search that gave away something that was going to happen in season 2 that I haven't seen or even thought would happen. UGH I hate that and I really just need to stop checking things UNTIL I have finished the series.

Word to the wise out there, don't check stuff, as you can't unsee things!

A friend where I use to work, I use the word friend loosely as he spoiled one season of a series I was watching and that he liked as well. I guess he assumed that I was caught up to the same level he was and said 'that's terrible what happened to so and so's wife" I was like WHAT???

So as I watched that season, nothing happened to her, and I thought, ah he was just kidding or was mixed up...until he very last few minutes of the last episode it happened. Needless to say that while I was watching the season I was preoccupied watching for this thing to happen so I did not enjoy it nearly as much as I would have otherwise...

I'll not say what that series was, cuz I don't wanna be that guy ;) but just stay away from searching online about a series you haven't finished yet, just not a good idea ;)

Spoilers never bother me.

In fact, I prefer knowing the plot of ending before I see a show so that I can know what to expect.

The same applies to sports. I want to know if the team I'm rooting for wins or not because I don't want to waste time watching if they don't and, if they do, I can just focus on those parts of the game that led to their victory.

That said, I try not to "spoil" shows/events for others but, if I know someone has already watched a show or game that I haven't seen yet, I always ask what happened.

Remind me not to watch shows with you ;)

I can’t focus on the scenes when I have advanced info on what is going to happen, I would be distracted trying to guess when it was going to happen

I'm very much the same way. For me it comes from wasting a lot of time watching things that turned out to be crap. I'd rather know the ending in advance than waste a couple hours watching a movie only to be disappointed, or worse, feel like I was made a fool of by the writer/director for sitting through their garbage.

When I like a movie, I like it more the second time I see it, because I know what to expect, and because I know it has an ending I'm going to like.

And if it's a series, and there's a particular character that I like, I don't like being surprised by their unexpected death or similar downfall because the writer/director thinks it would be cool to shock the audience by killing them off.

Some people just don't like surprises.

I find it interesting that there are two of you with similar thoughts regarding spoilers being given out, I would not have guessed that would have been the case!
Guess I'd have been better off knowing that before hand ;)
But I get it, the wasting of time on something. I do look at reviews and base judgement as to whether or not I would spend time watching something, but then some things it doesn't take much time to see that it isn't going to get much better.

I equate it to watching a movie/show that I've seen (often multiple times) before. Would you not watch a movie/show that you liked just because you saw it before and knew what happened and how it ended?

Of course, I won't watch something that I don't like again but I'll often watch a movie/show over and over again even though I already know what happens, but in the re-watching, I may focus on just one part that I particularly like and just skip over the rest.

Repeatability in a movie or series is something that I do treasure as I’ve watched a lot of things many times but I don’t want to know what happens the first time round.
some favorites are
Big Trouble in Little China
The Edge
Tremors
It’s a Wonderful Life
The Princess Bride
Monk
FireFly
and too many more to list
but I’ve always envied someone that hasn’t seen those yet as they are in for a treat of seeing it for the first time

edited to add one series that I am certifiable on, "Santa Clarita Diet" I've watched that series at least 6 times and still enjoy it, the writing and acting, to me, is killer. I'm Not talking oscars or anything but just flat out funny stuff, but ya gotta listen close to the dialog...;)

I stayed at a friend's place which had the first season of Game of Thrones on demand, and watched it through. Not long after that I was at work and someone asked me about the show. They mentioned a specific character whose fate I knew, and I said 'Yeah, I really like them too. Cool character." About a week later I saw the same person and they thanked me for not spoiling the show for them. They got to experience the shock for themselves and were very grateful.

I try to ask if the other person had a chance to see the show or movie before saying anything about it. If the discussion goes towards something I have not gotten to, I tell them right away that I haven't seen it yet. Remember reading about a show that finished the season in the U.S., but had not started overseas. People were discussing the show in comments on the posting and someone from the U.K. was rightfully annoyed that the whole season was spoiled for them before they viewed it. Staying off the Internet to avoid spoilers is rough for some of the sites I visit. There is little to no moratorium on posting information about shows these days.

Spoilers.....

Yeah but Sean Bean. You should have expected.

I think there should be a time limit on "spoiler alerts".

For example, and speaking of Game of Thrones, I was with a group of people and the show came up, and one person hadn't seen any of it yet. He started freaking out saying we were going to ruin it for him. I told him "Hey buddy, the show has been over for 3 years, if you haven't watched it yet, that's your problem", and we continued our discussion of the show. He wasn't chained up, he had the ability to walk away out of earshot.

If a person is going to take several months, or years, to watch something, then I say it's their own tough luck if any surprises get spoiled for them.

On the forums you can put your words under the cover of a Spoiler filter like;

" Luke! I am YOUR FATHER....

So then a person has to click to view it and then that's on them ;) but yep I agree that if a show has been running for several years and a person hasn't taken time to watch it, it's tough and like you said, he could excuse himself and leave. Not everyone has the 'want' to watch everything and have the idea that "I'll watch it eventually" but probably won't.
