OK, we're all one of the contestants and we're allowed one (only one!) blade with us. What would it be? Give a brief description why. I would take the RCM from Wicked Knife Co. It's big enough to chop, small enough to fillet and the 1095 steel is easy to sharpen. Also, the kydex sheath will hold up well, just try to keep sand out of it. P.S. wish we had Jeff Randall with us! Good Luck

Sorry guys, just found this topic in Wilderness and Survival. It would be silly to have it in two spots, and the other one is really on fire!

I would have been kicked out on the first day because I wouldn't play by the rules. I'll be damned if I'm going to run or be in a foot race with others for matches or show up at a tribal council.

My opinion would be to allow the folks to get voted off but not make it a team against team thing. Just throw them out there and allow the anger and frustration to build. Afer 2 weeks, leaders would emerge after the fights and disputes, THEN allow the whole group to vote one person off every other day. In other words, have a safety net for the contestants, but let them be the sole choice and decision makers in the process and the only means of their whole survival.

What's the deal on giving the group fire after they LOST the race.?

I think the older lady that got booted the first day probably had more heart and survival nature about her than most of the rest, but they didn't like her personality and blamed her for losing the race. I'll take heart and desire ANYDAY over physical strength.

The only safety net I would build is: If you get hungry, you can choose to quit, if you get cold, you can choose to quit, if you get tired, you can choose to quit, if you choose to quit, then you can quit, if you get injured, then you get taken out to a medical facility and it ends your tour of duty if YOU decide the injury is too bad to continue.

With all that said, from the one episode that I have seen, I liked the show pretty good. I think it's better TV than some of the other stuff they have. What bothers me is all the spin-off from the shows where they interview and talk about 'real survival' and the difficulty all the contestants are going through. The media has just set the pace on what 'real survival' is and 90 percent of America will fall for it.

I'm not a 'survivalist' and there are very damn few folks in the US that are, and I would safely say that 99.999 percent of these we have never heard of and never will. I enjoy survival skills and and can do ok own my own, but real survivalists in the term that we use it are folks who live survival everyday of their lives without the modern conveniences we choose.

I sort of like my normal life better than hacking a living out in some wilderness with nothing but a blade.

Jeff
