I got a new knife at Christmas hopefully to find a good chopper that is a little more versitile than my Khuks. So far I have not been impressed. I wanted to get some advice before doing too many mods. First I am going to work on the blade and smooth it out a little and reprofile the edge. The blade doesn't seem to have much forward weight and since the handles came apart while chopping this weekend, I thought about maybe drilling some holes in the blade handle to lighten it up a little and put more weight forward. I wanted to get a little advice first though before doing this. Of the 2 Khuks that I compared it two one, my Chiruwa 15" AK, cut much deeper but has a thinner blade edge and the other, a 15" rat tail tang AK, obviously had more forward weight. The handle also cramps my small handle a little so I also thought about grinding a little at the front extending the grip and creating a little more of a guard. Any advice or comments?

personally i would go ahead and do those mods you cited, just be careful about removing too much material inside the tang. you don't want to weaken it too much. obviously you don't need too much metal there for strength, considering all of the rat tail tangs out there on big blades (ie swords) but on a hard use knife it can't hurt to be cautious.

my advice is to just take it slow and steady. you can take it off, but its awefully tricky to put it back on.
