Tweener handle hardware - longer bolts?

I'm trying to make a set of Xbox case liners for my BK16, but have found that even with just one liner in place, the standard bolts are not long enough to even begin to thread the hex nut. For those that have made liners or wider handles...what size bolts are you using? Does anyone know the pitch angle of the standard nut so I can find a longer bolt...or should I just find all new hardware for it?
