Tweener Sheath - Which Retaining Strap to Keep??

Don't need two retaining straps on my tweener sheath. Which strap should I keep? Seems there should be a reason, however subtle, for keeping either the top or bottom strap.

I can see advantages either way. Am inclined to keep the top strap to keep the knife from leaning away from the belt too much. Then again, keeping the bottom strap might make the knife slightly more accessible.

Whaddya' think?

Or does it really make a difference . . .

on mine, when the bottom strap is secured and not the top..the 16 is rock solid in the sheath, but when just the top is snapped, the whole knife can slide way up thru the loop. I still have both, but if I cut one it will be the top.

It takes some work/force, but I can literally pull my 16 all the way out THRU the top loop/strap

snapped a couple quick pics to demonstrate.
If this was mounted upside down, even walking vibrations will put it in Pic1 position, Running or jumping could knock it all the way out as in Pic3. It was even easier to slide before I stippled it.

Hey, you stippled your 16. Nicely done.

FWIW, I'm keeping both straps on my 16's sheath. I'm starting to think of my 16 as my always-on-my-belt-in-the-woods-no-matter-what-knife. With that in mind, the belt-and-suspenders dual straps are excellent for retention, and I can access the knife by simply sweeping my forefinger across both straps. Since they pop loose with relative ease, I don't think I'll mess with it too much.

It's all academic anyway. I'm going to be getting a new sheath for it pretty soon anyway. In fact, it'll be something like this

as soon as Skystorm starts making them for the Tweeners. *hint hint, nudge nudge*

yeah, still working on my ''woodpecker taps'' LOL
Im gonna try ur light-touch technique on my black set. It looks better then the heavier stippling, but I do like the way the ''SandGrips'' feel LOL

I think you'll like it. On the Tweener grips the light-touch goes deeper than it does on the full-sized grivory. I think the Zytel melts a bit faster. That's why the texture on my Tweener's scales are more aggressive than the ones on my 5 and 9.

One thing I didn't mention before was that I didn't stipple the area right around the lanyard hole. I didn't want the stippling to possibly fray any paracord lanyard I end up tying on there.

Nice job on the stippling. I am not cutting either strap off any of mine. If anything, i may just get a different sheath.

yeah, Im gonna make a kydex sheath for mine, but since its a hunting knife (mainly) I intend to order it some nice StormySky moo-pants eventually. I need to find/buy/make some nice wood scales for it.

You mean like these? :D

Tommythewho made me these cocobolo scales. I should be getting them this week sometime. I think they're badass.

while those are nice, cocobola aint my thing.

I have a vision of flattened sides, and checkered panels. and burl possibly. ;)

or stag, never seen a stag Becker, have a site bookmarked for stag slabs

If you remove any strap, you need to remove the top one, unless you wanna unsheath your knife without unsnapping it.

Stag would be interesting. I haven't seen a set of those either. You ought to give that a try. I'd be interested to see it.

OK Thanks to this site I have found who makes the leather sheaths and im working on getting one as we type. But I see all these sexy wood handles, I have the micarta and there OK but the wood is sexy. Wheres the list for the handle makers?

As far as I know the only 'Heads that commercially makes wood grips is Jim and TommyTheWho.

Tommy's work is impeccable, IMO.

Well, Tommythewho is the guy who makes Becker wood by the truckload. Fast and reliable. I think jim62 has a bunch of wood ready to be made into scales, but you'd have to PM him and ask about availability.

All the other wood scale makers I know of don't really do this as a business, but rather as a hobby.

Does TommyTheWho have buisness name or website?

If you search ''Becker wood scales'' or similar on fleaday auction site......the Tommy scales will appear. He has a distinctive style that is easy to spot, I would search his name here on the forum then look at his Recently Started Threads to view examples of his work.

I cut off the top one since as others have said if using the top strap only the knife will move exposing the blade. If using the bottom strap only the knife is locked in well. I also cut off the flap and put on a teklok to raise how the knife sits on my belt.
