My 12" Sgt. Khadka with dark walnut handle arrived this afternoon. What a treat. I am still amazed at how easily one can stroke an HI Khuk blade a few times with a ceramic rod to get it sharp. Then, just a little steeling and you're ready to split hairs.
Before I got into HI khuks I was sort of a stainless steel snob. Preferrably ATS-34 or 154 CM thank you very much. Then I got a Blackjack Trail Guide with an A2 blade and began to suspect there was life before stainless.
It seems to me now that you just can't get stainless blades quite as sharp as you can the old reliable carbon steels. And I love being able to bring back the edge on a heavily worked khuk with a few strokes on a 14" steel.
This Sgt. K. is the smallest khuk I own and it may turn out to be one of the most useful. I plan to use it as a general household/kitchen utility knife and see where that leads.
Thanks Yangdu.
