Twisted blade tip

I have a serpentine jack by Hammer Brand USA from '45-'55 that is a little worse than most would consider keeping, but this one I found in the bilge of one of my race boats when I bought it. It is quite rusted, but functional. The main blade has a small twist type bend to it in the first 1/8" like someone tried to tighten a screw with it. I was thinking about sticking into a piece of hard wood and slowly twisting it farther and farther in the opposite direction 'til it was close to straight. Do you think this would work to straighten it out. I don't have a pic of the bend in question but I do have a pic of the knife...

I have cleaned up this knife since this pic was taken, and it opens very smooth on both blades now. I do plan to clean this knife up even further in the future, but if you experts have any tips on the best ways to do it, that would be great.

I usually take a pair of pliers, wrap the jaws in electrical tape, and carefully correct the alignment. You have to go slow, though, or you could bend it too far the other way, and you always risk breaking the tip off.

I took most of a bend out the tip of a toothpick by heating it in boiling water and gently tapping it with a small hammer on my anvil. I figured better warm than cold, seemed to work well enough.
